Army Officer Detained Over The Killing Of Former Editor Lasantha Wikramathunge Has Been Further Remanded

The Mount Lavinia Magistrate has today (03) further remanded the officer attached to the Army Intelligence Unit who was detained regarding the assassination of former Editor of the Sunday Leader Newspaper Lasantha Wikramathunge until 11th of August.

The suspect was further remanded after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court this morning.

The Magistrate Court has given the permission to Criminal Investigations Department (CID)to produce the suspect before Gampaha Magistrate on 08th  of August in connection with the attacks on assassinated  former editor of Sunday Leader Lasantha Wikramathunge and former Editor Upali Tennakoon in 2009.


Police And Navy Had Detained Thirty Five Persons including Six Females While Disposing Garbage Into Rivers

The Police and the Navy had detained thirty five persons including six females during separate raids carried out while disposing garbage into the Kelaniya River ,Hamilton Canal and hekaththa it has been reported.

Out of the detainees twenty eight including one female were detained by sri lanka Navy  at wattala and Palyagoda areas while disposing garbage into the Kelaniya River and  seven persons including five females were detained by the police while disposing  garbage to Hamilton Canal and Hekaththa area.

Later the suspects were released on police bail.

Health Ministry To File Legal Cases Against 859 Premises Owners In Western Province For Maintaining Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places

Image result for dengueLegal action is due to be filed against 859 premises owners who were found as maintaining Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places in their premises during the three day Special Dengue Control Programme conducted by the Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine at the Western Province on 29th of July,30th of July and 01st Of August .

Accordingly another 3238 premises owners have been issued notices for keeping risky environment in their places that will help to breading of dengue mosquitoes the Ministry has stated.

During the programme 520 teams comprising of members of Armed Forces and Health Officials have been raided 69,994 premises and out of them  1403 places have found as maintains dengue mosquito breading places it has been reported.

Court Of Appeal Has Extended The Stay Order Issued Against Full Face Helmet Ban In The Country

Image result for court of appeal sri lankaThe Court Of Appeal has today(03) extended the stay order issued against Police Department's circular  to ban wearing full face helmets in the country until 17th of November 2016.

The court has taken this decision after considering two petitions filed against the ban of wearing full face helmets.

The State Counsel has informed the court that the government is planning to introduce a high quality helmet for Motorcyclists and requested a sufficient time for that.

Colombo High Court Has Released The Confiscated Passport Of Former President's Secretary Lalith Weerathunge

Image result for colombo high courtThe Colombo High Court has today(03) ordered the authorities to release the confiscated Passport of Former President's Secretary Lalith Weerathunga on a bond of Rs.10 million.

The Court had been earlier confiscated the former President's Secretary's passport over the charges leveled against him on illegally spending Rs.600 million belonging to the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission(TRC) during previous regime  to purchase and distribute White Cloths(Sil Redi) among Buddhist Devotees in Temples around the country.
