Residents In Few Areas at Anuradhapura District Are Facing Difficulties Due To Wild Elephant Attacks

Residents in Samagipura and Mahabulankulama areas in Anuradhapura District (In North Central Province) are facing difficulties at present due to the attacks by around 15 Wild Elephants it has been reported.

Due to the attacks by Wild Elephants early this morning  a house in one of the areas had been severely damaged  according to the Police.

Although there's a Electric Fence in the area the wild  elephants are entering villages by breaking the fence the residents have stated.

Police Have Arrested A Person Who Is Alleged To Have Misappropriated A Sum Of Rs.1.6 Million

The Police have yesterday(15)  arrested a person who is alleged to have misappropriated a sum of Rs.1.6 million(1,658,384) at Medayaya in Mahiyanganaya(In Uva Province) Area.

The suspect was in hiding at Mapakadawewa in Medayaya area when the arrest was made and is due to handover to the Paliyagoda Special Crimes Investigations Unit for further investigations on the large scale financial fraud he had committed.

Police Have Found The Six Firearms Stolen From Laggala Police Station

The six firearms including a T-56 Assault Rifle and five revolvers stolen from the Laggala(In Central Province) Police Station on last Thursday(14) have been found this morning  hidden near a water tank of a temple in Laggala according to the Police.

According to a information received by the Laggala Police Station Officers this morning they have found the stock of firearms stolen from the police station ,hidden near a water tank belonging to the Sandagala Temple in Wellewela it has been reported.

The police believed the individual who had stolen these firearms from Laggala Police station may have left them behind the temple premises.

Three Police Officers who were in duty at the Laggala Police Station during the firearm robbery had temporarily interdicted yesterday by the police department.

Police Have Arrested 1056 Drunken Drivers During 10th Of April To 15th Of April Period

The Police have arrested a total number of 1056 motorists on the charge of driving under the influence of liquor from 10th of April to 15th of April under the special programme launched by department of police to arrest  the drunken drivers during the festive season.

A total number of 238 motorists were arrested on charge of driving under the liquor influence during the 24 hour period from 14th April to 15th April and majority of them were Motor cyclists( 124) according to police.73 Three Wheeler Drivers,20 Car Drivers ,09 Van Drivers,05 lorry drivers  and 03 drivers of private transport buses were among those arrested the Police have stated.
