Wife Of The Former Minister Shashi Weerawansha Has Been Arrested For Possessing A Fake Diplomatic Passport

The Wife of the former Minister Of Housing Wimal Weerawansha ,Shashi Weerawansha has been arrested this evening by the Criminals Investigations Department (CID) at a Private Hospital In Malabe(In Colombo) for providing false date of birth details and residence address to obtain  a  Diplomatic Passport.

Shashi Weerawansha has been asked to appear before the CID on 19th of February for the inquiry on the charges leveled against her   but she has failed to do so according to the sources.While stating the reason for his wife's decision to not attending before the CID her husband Wimal Weerawansha has said that she has been admitted to the Malabe Private Hospital to  taking  treatment for an illness.

Major General Krishantha De Silva Appointed As The New Army Commander

Major General Krishantha De Silva has been appointed as the new Army Commander with effect from this Sunday(22) according to the government.He will replace the outgoing Army Commander Lieutenant Daya Ratanayake who is due to be retired by tomorrow(21).Earlier media have reported that Major General Jagath Rambukpotha is due to appoint as the the new Army Commander.

Vehicle Movements Blocked At Kandy-Mahiyangana Main Road Due To A Land Slide


The Vehicle Movements on A-26 Kandy-Mahiyangana Main Road have been stopped this morning due to a land slide occurred at Ududumbara Area Police have announced.Due to the  land slide Kandy-Mahiyangana Main Road has been blocked at the first bend on the 18 hairpin bends according to the Police.

Parliament Has Approved Three Month Leave Period For MP Basil Rajapakshe

The Parliament has today(18) granted the MP of the former government and the former national organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Basil Rajapakshe a three months  leave due to his stay in United States Of America.MP Rajapakshe who is also the younger brother of the former President Mahinda Rajapakshe had left for USA soon after the conclusion of announcing results of the Presidential Elections on 09th of January.

Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala Silva has presented the leave proposal for MP Basil Rajapakshe which was approved by the house.MP Rajapakshe whom the majority of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the former coalition government of United Peoples Freedom Alliance have blamed for the defeat of former President, has also faced corruption charges..He is due to be questioned through the International Police ,INTERPOL.on his involvement of signing  several corrupted mega deals  for the former government .

MP Basil Rajapakshe who was the Minister of Economic Development of the previous government has also charged for attempting to bribe the public by distributing various items including clocks with printed pictures of former president mahinda rajapkshe during the recently concluded presidential election campaign.

Sri Lanka And India To Strengthen Defense Corporation

Sri Lanka and India had agreed to strengthen their corporation in Defense and solving the fishermen issue affected to both countries  during the bi lateral talks held between the visiting Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Indian Prime Minister Narendre Modi today(16)  in New Delhi .

While addressing the press after the talks the Indian Prime Minister Narendre Modi has said that India will encourage the fishermen associations in both Sri Lanka and India to meet and find a solution for the problem.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisene has arrived New Delhi this morning for a short official visit.

Frosts Appeared In Nuwara Eliya District Due To The Low Temperature

Frosts have been appeared in Several Areas in the Nuwara Eliya District today(16) as the temperature has fell to 5.2 Degrees Celsius according to the Meteorology Department.Due to the wind blows from Northern India the ground level temperature in most parts of the Nuwara Eliya District have down to 0.1 degrees Celsius this morning the department has announced.

Eighteen Higher Army Officers Have Been Transferred With Immediate Effect

The Army Commander Daya Ratnayake had transferred Eighteen Higher Officers attach to the Sri Lanka Army including Fifteen Major Generals and Three Brigadiers  with immediate effect  it has been announced this evening.

Several key positions in the Army including the Security Forces Commanders in     Jaffna,Wanni,Eastern and Central Provinces have been subjected to change soon the sources said.Some Major Generals holds key Army Positions have been already transferred to the Army Headquarters.

Meanwhile recently reinstated Major General Mahesh Senanayake who was sacked from his post during the previous regime due to his support to the Former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka in the 2010 Presidential Elections has been appointed as the Military Secretary.

Archeology Officers Have Arrested A Woman For Trying To Damage Sigiriya Frescoes.

The Archaeology Department Officers have arrested a 27 year old Batticloe Resident female on attempting to damage historical Sigiriya Frescoes by trying to carving her name on a fresco by using a hair pin. The Archaeology Officers have arrested the said woman and handed her to the Sigiriya Police the sources said.

The woman said to be visited Sigiriya with
few of her friends.

Former Defense Secretary Was Questioned By The CID

The Criminal Investigations Department(CID) has today(13) recorded a statement from former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe on the floating armories store maintained by the Avant Garde Security Services Limited and the Rakna Securities Private Limited.

The Police has said that the former Defense Secretary has agreed to give further details to the CID on floating armory in a future date.

Colombo Port City Project Has Been Automatically Stopped-Government

The Government has said that the controversial Colombo Port City Project funded by China has been automatically stopped due to shortcomings especially on unanswerable environmental issues.Government has now decided to re-visit and re negotiate the project based on mutual understanding between Sri Lanka and China according to the Acting Cabinet Spokesman Minister Lakshman Kirielle.

According to the Environment Impact Assessment Report and Feasibility Study Report issued related to Port City Project there are many shortcomings in the project regarding impact to the environment Minister  has said.

One of the promises made during the  Presidential Campaign of Current President Maithripala Sirisena was suspending the Controversial Port City Project.However the government last week announced that the port city project will be carried on and later cahnged their stand.

Power And Energy Minister To Expose The Names Of Culprits Who Have Stolen Billions Of Public Money And Assets

The Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranwake has pledged that he will publish a blacklist exposing all the VIP's including ministers of the previous regime who have stolen billions of rupees and public assets .

The Minister has stated that he is having all the details of the bank accounts belongs to those who stolen public money and assets and their sources."I expect to expose all of them with their names shortly" he has stressed.As having hard evidence against these persons it is not difficult to take legal action against them Minister Champika has further said.

Sri Lankan National Was Arrested At The Katunayake Air Port For Carrying Over Rs.7 Million Worth Currency Notes

A Sri Lankan National has been arrested at the Katunayake ,Bandaranaike International Air Port early this morning while attempting to leave the country with over Rs.7 million worth currency notes wrapped in a carbon paper and concealed in his luggage.

The man who is a resident in Kandy was arrested at the departure lounge of the Air Port with 10 bundles of currency notes in his luggage  including Euros,Yens and Sterling Ponds according to the Customs Officers.The suspect was prepared to board a Singapore Bound Flight UL306 at 1.10 a.m early this morning,

Heavy Showers exceeding 100 mili meters are likely to fall at some places in the Western,North Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and Galle and Matara Districts in coming days during afternoons and evenings  according to the Meteorology Department.Showers are to be occurred in the Central,North Central and Northern Provinces and in Hambanthota District the department has said.

Special Presidential Commission To Be Appointed To Probe On Large Scale Fraud And Corruption

President Maithrpala Sirisena has decided to appoint a Special Presidential Commission to probe on Large Scale Fraud and Corruption occurred during the previous regime.The Special Commission is due to be appointed during next week.

The Commission will be given the power to investigate on Corruption and Fraud deals and to recommend punishments for those who are responsible for such acts President Sirisena has said.

The new government has already appointed a Anti Corruption Front to collect information and complaints on large scale financial malpractices.The said front has given power to audit all government institutions as well.

Nelum Pokuna Mawatha(Road) To Be Re Named As Ananda Kumaraswamy Mawatha From Next Week

The "Nelum Pokuna Mawatha"( Road )which runs from Horton Roundabout to Public Library Roundabout in Colombo-07 is to be re named from it's previous name Ananda Kumaraswamy Mawatha from next week according to the Colombo Municipal Council.

The Road was re named as Nelum Pokuna Mawatha(Road) in 2011 following the opening of Nelum Pokuna Performing Arts Stadium.The naming of the road as Ananda Kumaraswamy Mawatha is to be done during a ceremony scheduled to be held next week with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena,

Interim Budget Was Passed In Parliament

The Interim Budget of the present government has passed this evening with a majority of 163 votes,In the vote 163 votes casts in favor and one MP,Ajith Kumara of DNA has voted against it.

Opposition MP'S Thissa Vitharana,DEW Gunasekera ,Dinesh Gunawardene,Wimal Weerawansha,Vasudeva Nanayakkare,Y.G Pathmasiri,Chandrasiri Gajadeere,,S Wijewikrame and Geethanjana Gunawardena were abstained from voting.

The interim budget proposals -2015,with several concessions to the public was presented to the Parliament on 29th of January by the Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake.

Military Presence In The North Will Not Be Reduced-State Minister Of Defense

The state minister of Defense Ruwan Wijewardene has said that the Military Presence in the Northern Province will not be reduced and the prevailing number of Military Bases in the province will be functioned without dismantling .State Minister has made these remarks during his first official visit to Jaffna yesterday(06) after assumed his duties in his ministerial post.

Nurses Union To Complain On Corrupt Deals Occurred In The Health Sector

President of the Public Services Nurses Union(PSNU) Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero has said that the Union will complain on the corrupt officers attach to the Health Sector and their corrupt activities to the Bribery Commission in near future."We have detailed documents on the corrupt deals of these corrupt health officers and there's a great need arise to clean the health administration in the country" Muruththettuwe Thero has stressed.

Even some higher officers attach to the Health Institutions who were found guilty by the Public Services Commission for fraudulent activities were appointed as directors of some health institutes he has revealed.

President should try to remove bureaucracy in the Health Ministry in view of finding effective solutions for trade union demands Muruththettuwe Thero has  said.

A 30 Hour Water Cut To Be Imposed In Colombo Tomorrow(07)

The National Water Supplies And Drainage Board has announced a 30 hour long water cut to be imposed in 11 divisions of Colombo from 9 a.m tomorrow(07) to 3 p.m on Sunday(08) while low pressure water supply to three other divisions in the city during that period due to an urgent repair to the main pipe line in Maligakande..

According to the Board 30 hour water cut will be imposed in Colombo 1,2,3 and 7 to 14 while low pressure water supply will be imposed in Colombo 04,05 and 06.Public reside in those areas are advised to collect sufficient amount of water for their daily needs before the water cut.

Cabinet Approved The National Medicinal Drug Policy Draft Bill

The Cabinet has yesterday(04) approved the Draft Bill of the National Medicinal Drug Policy.The approved Medicinal Drug Policy is the second Drug Policy Draft Bill approved by the Cabinet since 2005.

The earlier Draft Bill was misplaced at the Legal Draftsman Office and a new draft bill of the Drug Policy was prepared after that incident.The new draft bill approved by the Cabinet will present to the Parliament shortly Cabinet Spokesman Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has said.

Cabinet Has Decided To Proceed With Colombo Port City Project

The Cabinet has decided to go ahead with the China Funded Colombo Port City  Project inaugurated by the previous government Cabinet Spokesman Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has said today(05).During the Presidential Elections Campaign,Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinha has said that they will stop the Colombo Port City Project due to the environmental threats and some corrupt deals occurred under the project.

President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to be discuss on the several questionable matters related to the project when he visits China on March Dr.Senaratne has stressed.

Four Were Killed And Another Two Critically Injured Due To A Cab-Train Collision

Four members of a same family were killed and another two persons got critically injured when the Cab they were traveled in collided with a train traveling from Colombo to Vvuniya at Batuwatta Main Railway Crossing today(04).

According to the Police the Father ,Two Sons and a Daughter of the same family have died from the accident while the mother and another daughter got injured and now receiving treatment at the Ragama Teaching Hospital.

Due to this accident Sri Lanka Railways have decided to halt train services in the Main Railway Line temporarily.

Express Highway Bus Fares Reduced

In view of the recent fuel price reduction the Bus Fares on the Southern and Colombo-Katunayake Express Highways have been reduced the National Transport Commission has announced.According to the price reduction the bus fare of the Kaduwela to Matara will be Rs.460 and Maharagama to Matara will be Rs.445.

The bus fare for Maharagama to Galle will be Rs.375 and Colombo to Katunayake Rs.110.

Former General Secretary Of United National Party Tissa Attanayake Had Arrested And Remanded

Former General Secretary of the United National Party(UNP) and Health Minister MP Tissa Attanayake had been  arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division this morning in Colombo for creating a fraud document with fake signatures of Current President Maithripala Siirsena and Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinha during the election campaign of the Presidential Elections.

 After produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate MP Attanayake was ordered to be remanded till 11th of February per the request made by Colombo Crimes Division Officers.

Parliament To Meet Tomorrow (02) For A Special Debate On Chief Justice Issue

The Speaker Chamal Rajapaksha has announced that the Parliament will meet at 2 P.M tomorrow(02) on a request made by the Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinha to conduct a special debate on the appointment and removal of the former Chief Justice Mohan Pieris.

A heated debate on the removal of Mohan Pieris from the Chief Justice Post took place in Parliament on Last Friday following the special statement made by the Prime Minister Wikaramasinha over the removal of Pieris.This lead the Opposition to make a special request for a debate on chief justice issue.

Government has already appointed the most senior judge in the Supreme Court K.Sripavan as the 44th Chief Justice following the retirement of 43rd Chief Justice Dr.Mrs.Shiranai Bandaranaike who was retired one day after reinstated in
the post. .

Sri Lankan Air Lines Hostess Was Killed And Three Others Injured On An Accident In Doha

A Sri Lankan  Air Lines Air Hostess was killed and three other Sri Lankan Air Lines staff members,  two flight attendants and an Air  Hostess got injured when the vehicle they were traveled in on Desert Safari met with an accident in Doha,Qatar yesterday (30).

The Air Line Hostess that killed was identified as the Ms.Ammendra De Kauwe reside in Raddolugama ,Colombo.The injured Air Line Staff Members are reported as out of danger.There were six passengers including Ms.Kauwe onboard the Jeep at the time of the accident,

Most Senior Judge In The Supreme Court Sripavan Sworn In As New Chief Justice

The most senior judge in the Supreme Court K.Sripavan has sworn in as the new Chief Justice in Sri Lanka before President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat this evening.The New Chief Justice was appointed after the 43rd Chief Justice Dr.Mrs,Shirani Bandaranaike's has retired from the post yesterday almost one day after she was reinstated as the Chief Justice.

Chief Justice Sripavan was an old boy of Jaffna Hindu Collage.President Maithripala Sirisena was sworn in his post before him on 10th of January soon after elected as the new president of Sri Lanka.

Former Chief Justice Dr.Shirani Bandaranaike was given a grand farewell by lawyers and staff of the Hulftsdorf Court Complex yesterday as she retired from the post at the age of 56.

Sri Lankans Applying For Dual Citizenship Here To Pay Rs.500,000 Fee-Finance Minister

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has yesterday (29) announced at Parliament during his presentation of the Interim Budget -2015, that all Sri Lankans who are applying for Dual Citizenship here should pay Rs.500,000 per individual request.All Sri Lankans living in selected countries can apply for the dual citizenship and it will be granted after due evaluation he has said.

Furthermore government has decided to make special provisions for Foreigners who are seeking resident status in Sri Lanka and in a position to invest US Dollars 10 Million in the country.The visa fee for such foreigners is fixed as Rs.2.5 million and all such applications need to be approved through the Defense Ministry.Those who are receiving the resident status need to renew their status for every 5 years the Finance Minister said.

People Have Received Benefits From The Interim Budget

*Salaries of the State Sector Employees Increased by Rs.10,000 

*Prices of 13 Essential Items to be reduced with immediate effect 

*Mahapola Scholarship Allowance  of University Students increased to Rs.5000

*Pensions of State Sector Employees increased by Rs.1000

 *Sri Lankan and Mihin Air Lines to be Merged

*Marriage Registration Fees reduced to Rs.1000 from Rs.5000

*Public Transportation Costs of Senior Citizens to be reduced by 50%

*Money allocated for activities of Presidential Secretariat To be Reduced

 are among the major proposals of the much awaited Interim Budget which was presented today(29) to the Parliament by Finance Minister of the new government Ravi Karaunanayake.


Under the Interim Budget  described  by many as a Peoples friendly Budget  the prices of 13 essential items are due to be reduced with immediate effect.They are  Prices of 400 grams of Milk Powder to be reduced by Rs.61,Sugar By Rs.10 per Killo,Wheet Flour by Rs.12.50 per Killo,Bread by Rs.6,Canned Fish by Rs.50,Coriander By Rs.46 to 20 per per Kilo,Chili  Powder by Rs.25 per Kilo,Sprats by Rs.26 per Kilo,LP Gas by Rs.300 per 12.5 KG (New price will be R.1500),Mung Been by Rs.40 per kilo,Maldive Fish by Rs.200 per Kilo,Turmeric by Rs.100 per kilo,Sustagen Milk Powder by Rs.100 per 400 grams.

The Salaries of the  state sector employees to be increased by Rs.10,000 (By Rs.5000 from February this year and by Rs.5000 from June)-Private Sector will be encouraged to increase the salaries of their employees by Rs.2500..
