Delay Of Implementing An Inquiary Report Worries The Health Unions

Sri Lankan Health Trade Unions charged that around 40 Defendants who were issued Charged Sheets over the using of Expired Blood Kits are not punished by the Public Services Commission(PSC) from almost a year since the handing over an Inquiary Report to the Commission.The Inquiry Report on the Expired Blood Kits Case was handed over to the PSC by the Health Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage on 01st of September last year.

Around 40 defendants including the Former Director of the National Blood Transfusion Center in Colombo and Two Store Keepers and a Doctor were among the charged over using expired Plasma Pherasis and A Pherasis Kits for the patients.

Court Ordered To Arrest Wife Of The SSP Over A Student Assault

Sri Lankan Magistrate Court ordered to arrest the Wife of Interdicted Colombo Crimes Division Head SSP Vaas Gunawardane yesterday over the Assaulting Case of the IT Student.However she was not at home when a Police Team went to arrest her according to the Police Sources.Former SSP Vaas Gunawardena was transferred to the Police Headquarters as a normal Police Officer soon after his involvement in the Assault was reported.

His Son who is the Main Suspect of Assaulting the IT Student Nipuna Ramanayaka got admitted to the South Colombo Teaching Hospital after complained about an illness while other suspects including Police Officers were remanded after produced before the Courts.

BTI Bacteria To Relese To The Market

Ministry Of Health is planning to release the locally made BTI Bacteria which is use to destroy the Dengue Mosquito Lavea to the Market soon .According to the Health Ministry Locally made BTI Bacteria and the Cuban Made Bacteria will be released to the Market soon which enable the Public to using it for Dengue Breading Sites in their House Hold.

Ministry is planning to release the Bacteria in 80 Mili Litre Form Bottles and selling it for a reasonable price.Bio Power Lanka Private Limited already began producing the BTI Bacteria and expected to finishing it in 30 days time.Importing of the Cuban Made BTI Bacteria will be made after examining the Report handover by the Visiting Cuban Epidemiologists to the Health Ministry Ministry Sources said.

BTI Bacteria is selling to the Public due to Government is not having enough Man Power and Efficiency for using it in large scale.

All IDP'S To Re Settle After Clearing Mines

Sri Lankan Government will Re Settle All the IDP's in the North after clearing the Land Mines planted in those Areas Minister of Disaster and Relief Services Rishad Badurdeen says today.Land Mine Threat caused the delay of re settling Process of the IDP'S he stressed.
Government already clearing the Mines of the Area and soon after finishing this process Re settlement of the IDP'S will begun he further added.He disclosed these facts at a Media Briefing in UN Compond this evening.

Replying to a Question raised by a Journalist UN Resident Representative of Sri Lanka Bruhne said that it is Government's Responsibility to maintaining the IDP Camps in the North and UN only assisting the Process.Therefor if some camps in the North are facing Floods the responsbility is in the hands of the Govt.as they select the Camp Sites,construction and ,dozer it he stressed.

Indian Government Donated Large Stock Of Relief Items To IDP'S

Indian Government today handover a 600 Tonnes of Relief Items to the United Nations Office in Colombo to distribute among the IDP's lives in Camps in the Northern Sri Lanka.Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Mr.Alock Prasad handed over the Relief Items worth US Dollers 3 Million to the UN Resident Representative Neil Bruhne at the UN Compound in Colombo this evening.

The Donated items contains Grocery Items,Utensils,Plastic Mats,Garment Metarials including Children Clothing Materials,Footwear and Personal Sanitation Items.According to the Indian High Commissioner These Items are sufficient to the Around 80,000 Families among the Approximately 285,000 IDP'S in the Camps.

Indian High Commissioner also stressed the need to resettle the IDP'S in the Northern Sri Lanka in quick manner and Indian Government's willingness to assist the Process.

Ten Suspects Of The Student Assault Case To Appear In Courts

Ten Suspects including Six Policeman who are believed to be involved in the alleged assaulting of the IT Student in Colombo are due to produced before Colombo Magistrate Court tomorrow.The Son of the Senior Police Superintendent Vaas Gunawardana is also alleged to be involved with the Assault.

SSP Gunawardana was transferred to the Colombo Police Headquarters from the Colombo Crimes Division effect from last Friday due to this Incident.

The Funeral Of Two Youths Killed By Police Held Under Tight Security

The Funeral of the Two Youths who were shot dead by the Agulana Police in the Colombo Suburbs last weak was held this evening amidst tight Security.Police Riots Squads and Army Personal placed in the Area to prevent any Violence.

Mount Lavinia Court ordered that the Coffins of the Two Youth should take directly to the Cemetery from their Houses preventing of taking the Coffins to another Place to Protest against the Killings.

Cuban Epidemiologists Handover A Report On BTI Bacteria

A report Recommending the ways of using Cuban Made BTI Bacteria into the National Dengue Control Programme in Sri Lanka was handover to the Health Ministry this morning by the Two visiting Cuban Epidemiologists.This Report is made after visiting the Dengue Alert areas of Hambanthota,Kandy,Anuradhapura,Gampaha and Colombo.

The report is now with the Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Athula Kahanda Liyanage and he will implement the recommendations of this Report after examining it further Health Ministry sources said.

Police Crimes Division Head Transferred Over A Student Assault

Head of the Colombo Crimes Division Senior Superintendent Of Police(SSP) Vaas Gunawardane was transferred to the Police Headquarters in Colombo this evening with immediate effect .He and his Son were charged for Assaulting a Student of the Information Technology Institute few days ago.The injured Student is hospitalized and getting further treatment for his injuries.

Agulana Residents Clashed With The Police

Moratuwa Agulana area in the Colombo Suburbs became a Small Battlefield today as the Residents in the Area attacked the Office of the Officer In Charge (OIC)Of The Agulana Police following a Killing of Two Youths arrested by the Police on yesterday.The Two Youths were arrested by the Agulana Police yesterday Night on the charge of harassing a women.However the Two Bodies of the stained Youth were found in the Beach this Morning and it led people in the area to Violent Activities against the Police.

The Office of the Police OIC whom the residents of the area says the Prime Suspect of the Killing of Two Youths was injured after he was stoned this morning by the Residents.Police too fired towards the Violent Residents who were involved in the Attack and Police and Army officers were put in charge in the Area to control the Situation.

Residents who are Angry over the Killing of Two Youth blocked the Coastal Railway Track in the Area this morning which caused Railway Department to Cancel Coastal Train Services Temporarily this Morning for few Hours.However Crowd became calm after the Visiting Police Chiefs from Colombo had taken steps to Transferred the controversial OIC of Agulana Police who is the Prime Suspect of the Youths Killing and few other Police Officers involved in the incident with immediate effect.

Dialog To Expand Their Mobile Network To Former Rebel Held Areas

A partner of the Malysian Telecom the Dialog Telecom had launched the first ever Mobile Phone Network in the Former War Zone in Northern Sri Lanka becoming the first International Mobile Company to do so.Sri Lanka's Biggest Mobile Operator Dialog Telecom today announced that they are alrady setup their base stations in the former rebel held areas.

According to the Chief Executive of the Dialog Dr.Hans Wijesooriya Dialog Network plans to install 60 Base Stations in the War Torn Areas at the Cost of 10 Million US Dollers this year.Dialog already moves into the former Rebel held areas of Elephantpass,Kilinochchi,Punarin,Mankulam and Thunukkai.

Essential Cancer Drugs including Three Vital Cancer Injections are out of stock in the Sri Lanka's only Government owned Cancer Hospital at Maharagama these days.According to the Oncologists of the Hospital Injections Ifosphamide,Interferon and Gemcitabine and few other Essential Cancer Drugs are out of stock at the Hospital.

Due to the Higher Prices Cancer Patients cannot afford these Vital Injections from the Private Hospitals they stressed.These Drugs are Out of Stock atleast once aweak at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital Oncologists further added.

Government To Reduce Marriage Age?-Add.Solicitor General

Government is planning to bring New existing laws to reduce the current Marriage Age from 18 to 16 Additional Solicitor General Palitha Fernando said today.Addressing a Workshop conducted by the Child Protection Authority Titled "National Jouranalist Alliance for the Protection Of Children" says Marriage of the above 16 will be made with the consent of their Parents.

Under the Present Sri Lankan Marriage Law those above 18 Years can get Married without the Consent with their Parents.

Governing UPFA Secured Land Slide Victory At Local Elections

Governing United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) won the Uva Provincial Council and Jafna Urban Council Elections conducted yeterday(08).UPFA also secured Two Seats out of the Twelve Seats allocated at the Vavuniya Municipal Council.These Elections conducted under Peaceful Atmosphere according to the Officials.

At the First ever Local Elections held in Jafna and Vavuniya in Northern Sri Lanka from more than Two Decades Governing UPFA able to received the Majority of Votes in the Jafna Urban Council Election by securing 10,602 Votes with 13 Seats.Ilankai Thamil Arusakachchi(ITAK) secured 8008 Votes with 8 Seats and Independant Group One Secured 1175 Votes with 1 Seat and Tamil United Liberation Front(TULF" got 1007 Votes with 1 Seat.

At the Vavuniya Municipal Council Elections Ilankai Thamil Arusakachchi secured 4279 Votes with 5 Seats,Democratic Peoples Liberation Front(DPLF) GOT 4136 votes and won 3 Seats and UPFA secured 3045 Votes with 2 Seats and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress(SLMC) received 587 Votes with 1 Seat.

At the Uva Provincial Council Election held yesterday Governing UPFA secured a Landslide Victory against the Main Opposition United National Party(UNP) by Securing 72.39 Percent of the Total Votes with 25 Seats.UPFA polled 418,906 Votes and UNP polled 129,144(22.32 Percent) with 7 Seats and Jantha Wimukthi Peramuna(JVP) SECURED 14,639(2.5 Percent) with 1 seat and the Up Country Peoples Front received 9227 Votes with 1 Seat.

Low Voter Turnout At The Local Elections

Provincial Council Election of Uva Province and the Urban Council Elections of Jaffna and Vavuniya began this morning.According to the Center of Monitoring Election Violence 25 Percent Voter turnout was reported from Uva Province and 6 and 12 Percent turnout were reported from Jafna and Vavuniya Urban Council Areas respectively during the first few hours of voting today.

Voting will conclude 4 P.M this evening.

Jafna And Vauniya Towns Remains calm On An Election Eve

Jafna andVavuniya Towns are reported as calm on the eve of the Provincial Council Elections there.According to the Government Agent of Jafna the Roads are not blocked as the Polls and Transport will allow free to move.

So far no serious incidents were reported from the two towns.

INTERPOL Arrested The Newly Elected LTTE Leader KP

The newly appointed Leader of the LTTE and most wanted Terrorist Leader next to the former Rebel Leader Valupillai Prahakaran, KP alias Kumaran Pathmanathan was arrested by the INTERPOL at Bangkok this evening.LTTE last month had announced that the KP will lead their struggle for an Ealam State in Sri Lanka.

KP is the head of the International Division of the LTTE an appointment made by the Prabhakaren.

Upto 40,000 Illegal Workers In Italy To Be Benefited

Under the Anti Crisis Bill Passed by the Italian Parliamant on 03rd of August seeking to regularize the Illegal Immigrants in Italy around 4000 to 40,000 Sri Lankan Illegal workers in Italy could be benefited Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said in Parliament today.Under the new law Illegal Workers in Italy will granted Visa Status.

Anti Crisis Law is to become effective from end of August.

Swine Flu Is Spreading Internally

The Domestically infected Swine Flu Cases are in the rise and within past few days Seven of them were identified according to the Epidemiologists.These Patients were got the Disease from their relatives and friends returned from other countries they said.

Up to now Sixty Swine Flu Patients have been identified from the Island and out of them Fifty Three are Sri Lankans and Foreigners returned from Abroad mostly from Australia.

A wife and the teenage daughter of a Top LTTE Leader were been arrested by the Intelligence Officials at the Katunayaka Bandaranaika International Air Port in Colombo this Evening while trying to flee to Hungary .It has been revealed that the Wife and daughter of the LTTE Leader are seeking refuge in Hungary.

These two escaped from the Kilinochchi during the war against LTTE.The names of the arrested and the LTTE Leader are not revealed as yet.

A Montoring Commitee Appointed To Alert On Phonographic Web Sites

Sri Lanka Telecommunication Regulatory Commission(TRC) appointed a Monitoring Committee to be alert for Phonographic Sites in Sri Lanka it has been revealed.According to the Director General of the TRC Priyantha Kariyapperuma this Commitee will closely monitoring such Web Sites and make recommendations to the TRC.

Meanwhile local Telephone and Internet Service Providing Companies are agreed to continuousley monitoring Phonographic Web Sites in the Island and controlling access into these sites.Twelve such Sites were banned already.

Carrying Arms By Political Parties And Factions Banned In Eastern Province

From today onwards except Sri Lankan Police and Army no Party or Faction in the Eastern Province will allow to carrying Arms Eastern Provincial Police announced.Under this neither the members of the Ealam People's Democratic Party(EPDP) led by Minister Douglas Devananda nor Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pukkal(TMVP) led by Eastern Provincial Council Chief Minister Pillayan allow to carrying Arms for any reason Police further said.

Twelve Students Suffering From A Severe Cough

Twelve Students who are suffering from a spreadable Cough with Breathing Problems were admitted to the Polonnaruwa Base Hospital in the North Central Sri Lanka both yesterday and today Hospital sources said.These Students are from a Muslim School in the area developed a non stop Cough and due to this measures are taken to stop the spreading of this Cough according to the Dr.Rukshan Bellana the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital.

The Medical Tests carriedout by the Medical Research Institute(MRI) on the Blood Samples of these students revealed that these Students are not suffering from the Swine Flu and it is a Dry Cough caused by a kind of Virus.

Maharagama Cancer Hospital Nurses Receiving Death Threats

Fifty Four Maharagama Cancer Hospital Nurses who are subjected to immediate Transfers are reported as sending Death Threats to the Nursing Staff of the Hospital who are giving Chemo Therapy Treatment to the Cancer Patients.This led Hospital Authorities to get Police Security to the Hospital since yesterday in the view of security of the Nursing Staff .

Police Officers are now petroling the Cancer Hospital preventing any Sabotage Act from the Transferred Nurses according to the Director of the Cancer Hospital Dr.Sulochana Yoganathan.Dr.Yoganadan also said that they received seventy new nurses to the hospital as replacements to the fifty four Transferred Nurses and with the help of them Chemo Therapy Treatment given to all the Patients without any delay.

Meanwhile the Court Case regarding the petition filed at the Supreme Court by the Transferred Nurses of the Cancer Hospital against their Transfers will be taken to review tomorrow.

Three Tamil national Alliance(TNA) Candidates who are contesting Urban Council Election in Vavuniya of the Northern Sri Lanka received death threats Center For Monitoring Election Violence(CMEV) said today.According to the Centre P.Paramsothy,N.Madiharana and M.Sellathurai received Death Threats.

Domestically Infected Swine Flu Cases Risen To Three

Another Two Swine Flu Patients who contacted the Disease from a Sri Lankan returned from Oversees were identified few days ago the director of the IDH Fever Hospital Dr.Anura Senanayaka said.With these two patients the total number of Swine Flu Patients contacted the Disease domestically have risen to Three and sending alarms to the Health Authorities on spreading of the Disease internally.

So far 54 Swine Flu Patients are reported from Sri Lanka since 18th of June this year and out of them 51 Patients were contacted the Disease in Oversees.

Two Cuban Epidemeologists To Submit A Report On Dengue Bacteria

The two Cuban Epidemiologists who are here to examine the ways of using Cuban Made BTI Bacteria in Sri Lanka to eradicate the Dengue Menace are due to handover a Report regarding this to the Ministry Of Health within Three Weeks time it has been revealed.

According to the Deputy Director General Of Health Services(Public Health)Dr.Palitha Mahipala the two Cuban Epidemeologists are currently examining the Dengue Mosquito Breeding Places at the Hambantota District in Southern Sri Lanka and after visiting other Districts which are most vulnerable to spreading of Dengue, they will handover a Report on how to use BTI Bacteria in Sri Lanka.

After examining the Report Health Ministry will take a decision on how to import and use this Bacteria to Dengue Breeding Sites he stressed.Two Cuban Epidemiologists Dr.Armian Martinez and Dr.Yellina arrived here last tuesday and palnning to stay in the Island for Three Months.

Cancer Hospital Nurses To Fall Sick Tomorrow

Nursing Staff of the Sri Lanka's only Government Owned Cancer Hospital at Maharagama is due to launch a Sick note Campaign tomorrow as a move to protest against the Decision of the Hospital Authority to not to accept the Supreme Court Ruling on halting the Transfers of 54 Cancer Hospital Nurses.

Cancer Hospital Nurses today staged a Five Hour Walk out from the Hospital Premises during 8 A.M to 1 P.M today to protest against the Hospital Authorities and this action put Clinics and Patient Care of the Hospital to standstill.Only Emergency Services were maintained during this protest Hospital Sources Revealed.

Colombo Court Ordered To Block 12 Phonography Web Sites

Colombo Magistrate Court yesterday ordered the Sri Lanka Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission(TRC) to blocked 12 Web Sites containing Photography Material involved in local Women and Children.RedTube.Com is among the sites ordered to be Blocked.

Announcing the Blockage Colombo Chief Magistrate Nishantha Hapuarchchi said the Web Site owners have 14 days to respond on this Blockage and if they failed to do so the TRC will asked to keep on blocking the above sites.

Sri Lanka already imposed an unofficial ban on Phonography Web Sites.However even the local Internet Service Providers are blocked the access to these sites some still able to access int these by using Foriegn based Proxy Servers.

Supreme Court Ordered To Stop Transfering 53 Nurses Of The Cancer Hospital

The Supreme Court yesterday issued an Interim Order to the Ministry of Health preventing the Transferring of 53 Nurses attached to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital after considering a Petition jointly filed by three Nursing Unions against the Ministry decision.

This Interim Order valid till the next hearing of the petition scheduled to be held in 30th of July.However Maharagama Cancer Hospital Authorities refused to act according to the Court order and trying to implement the Ministry's decision Nurses Unions charged.Health Ministry last weak decided to transfer 53 Nurses who are serving at the Hospital more than four years and stop giving the Chemo Therapy Treatment to the Cancer Patients citing Safety reasons.

Meanwhile Nurses of the Cancer Hospital staged a Picket Campaign in front of the Hospital this noon to urge Hospital Authorities to Implement the Court Decision.

Swedish Government To Closed Down It's Embassy In Colombo

Swedish Government decided to closed down their Embassy in Colombo by 30th of March 2010.Swedish Government Officially announced this yesterday.

Earlier reports quoting Swedish Government Sources says the reason behind this move is none other than the present Global Economic Crisis.However reliable sources predicted that the denying of Issuing Visa to the Swedish Foreign Minister by Sri Lankan Authorities on last April was behind this decision.

IMF Exco Approves 2.6 Billion US Dollar Loan For Sri Lanka

International Monetary Fund(IMF) Executive Board yesterday approved the much debated 2.6 Billion US Dollars Standby Agreement for Sri Lanka.The Board also decided to release 322.2 Million US Dollars Immediately according to the Sri Lankan Ministry Of Finance.

IMF delayed approving this Loan since early part of this इयर due to the Pressure of some Western Powers who urged to consider Sri Lanka's Human Rights record during the War against LTTE when granting the Loan.

The Brand of Paracetamol which lead to the Deaths of 24 Children in Bangladesh is not imported to Sri Lanka according to the Director of the National Drug Authority Dr.Hemantha Beneragama."We are not importing any kind of Drugs from Bangladesh and therefor there's no need to affraid of he stressed.

Bangladeshi Health Authorities sealed the Pharmaceutical Company which distribute the Paracetamol Product soon after the deaths were reported.

Former LTTE Loyals Remanded

Former LTTE Media Spokesman Daya Master and Translator George Master who were surrendered to Sri Lankan Forces on last April were remanded today after producing them to the courts.Investigationes on these two are continueing according to the CID.

Group Of Army Deserters To Be Released Under Special Amnesty

Around 1815 Army Deserters who are convicted by Military Tribunal are due to be released from Prisons next Monday under Special Amnesty granted by President Mahinda Rajapaksha.There are 50 Officers among these Deserters.

First Locally Contacted Sri Lankan Swine Flu Case Detected

The First Sri Lankan Swine Flu Patient contacted the Disease locally was found yesterday signaling that the disease may spread intrernally according to the Epidemiologists.Out of Fourty Eight Swine Flu Patients that were reported up to now from here Fourty Seven are Sri Lankans who returned from Abroad.The local patient who is a Twenty Six year old youth was contacted the disease through one of his relatives who returned to Sri Lanka recently.The patient is currently receiving treatment at the IDH Fever Hospital.

Four New Cases of Swine Flu or H1N1 were identified yesterday and Two of them were Sri Lankans returned to the Country from Indonesia,One is from Maldives and other one from Dubai.
