Tobacco Company Should Contribute Rs.500 Million To President's Fund As A Tax-Health Minister

Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has yesterday (27)requested the Ceylon Tobacco Company to contribute Rs.500 million to the President's Fund to conduct an anti tobacco programme as a tax not as a grant which was earlier proposed through the budget by Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake.
As accepting the money from the tobacco company to conduct activities in health sector is illegal under the framework convention of tobacco control signed by 182 countries including Sri Lanka company should contribute the Rs.500 million to the president's fund as a tax health minister has stressed.

Twenty Three Adult And Child Beggers Were Arrested From Kataragama Religious Site
Police with the assistance of officials attached to
Kataragama Dvisional Secretariet had arrested 23 adult and child beggers who were involved in begging at the Kataragama religious site.
Accordingly 15 child beggers and 08 adult beggers were arrested from the religious site and they are due to be produced before the Thissamaharama Magistrate Court.
Katharagama Police are conducting an investigations on the incident.

Train Services In Hunupitiya Rail Track Delayed Due To A Cement Mixer Truck -Train Collision
Train Services in Hunupitiya Rail Track had been
delayed for 45 minutes this morning as a result of a cement mixer truck colliding with a express train travelling from Vavuniya to Matara at the station.
Due to the carelessness of the driver in cement mixer truck it entered the railway crossing although rail gate was closed at that time and as a result met with the accident police have stated.
As a result of the accident the express train has reached Colombo Fort railway atation 45 minutes later than the scheduled time.
