Fourteen Day Injunction Order Against Fonterra Has Extended

The 14 day Injunction Order issued by Court of appeal  banning Fontera Brands Sri Lanka Limited on advertising their milk powder products as 100% safe to  be consumed was again extended till 19th of September when court has taken up the case  today (02).the two member Court of appeal judge panel compromising chairman of court S.Skandaraja and Malini Gunaratne have issued the extension order.

An architect reside in Matale District has filed the case against Fonterra early last Month  against the misleading advertising strategy adapted by  Fonterra on their milk powder products although advertising milk powder products were banned by director general of health services at that time due to DCD scare in the country.

During the court proceedings the lawyers representing plaintiff were argued that although fonterra milk powder products still available in the market it has not clear whether they have contained DCD agro chemical or not as the DCD issue is still not yet be settled.

A Risk Of Re Issuing The Removed Stocks Of DCD Contaminated Milk Powder To The Market-GMOA

The Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) has said that there's a great risk of re issuing the DCD agro chemical contained stocks of Milk Powder which removed from the market recently as  those  stocks still not destroyed by the Health Ministry.Health Ministry should have taken those removed stocks of milk powder under them from milk powder companies and destroy them to avoid such situation the assistant secretary of GMOA Dr.Nalin Ariyaratna has said.

A large stock of Milk Powder Packets belongs to various brands imported mainly from New Zealand and Australia has been removed from the market recently after tests conducted by Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) has confirmed that they have contaminated with DCD Chemical.however those removed stocks still there in stores of milk powder companies it has been revealed.Due to this situation GMOA has already requested from ministry officials to destroy these contaminated milk powder stock with immediate effect dr,ariyaratne has said.

GMOA has also make it clear to health authorities that they are not satisfied with the way health ministry has sending imported milk powder samples to ITI for testing DCD he has stressed.without sending selected milk powder samples from the market ministry should have send samples taken from all the imported milk powder products available in local market for DCD test dr,ariyaratne has further said.

More And More Sri Lankan Consumers Switched On To Buy Local Milk Products Due To The DCD Scare

As laboratory tests have shown that some imported milk powder products from New Zealand contaminated with agro chemical Dicyandiamide(DCD) a large number of Sri Lankan milk powder consumers reside in bothurban and rural areas now have switched  on to buying locally produced  liquid milk and milk powder according to market sources.although some imported milk powder batches received DCD clearance from authorities consumers are avoiding buying them due to the fear of contaminating toxins sources added.

Due to the higher demand on locally produced liquid milk and milk powder these days there is a shortage of supplying these compare to the demand it has been reported.in some markets and food cities there is a severe shortage of locally produced milk powder products like Highland and Palawatta reports have revealed.consumers in cities not only avoid of buying imported milk powder from New Zealand but also the milk products like Yoghurt,Curd ,Cheese and Butter as well which are made from cows milk sources further said.there is a higher demand for milk products made by local factories like Ambewela,Kothmale and Highland.

Updated-New Zealand Government To Assist Sri Lanka On Incereasing Local Liquid Milk Production

The visiting Foreign Minister of New Zealand Murray Macully has told Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha today(30) that the New Zealand government will assist sri lanka to further develop the local dairy industry to increase the local liquid milk production the government  sources said.

As he has discussed with Sri Lankan counterparts on  measures to increase liquid milk production in  Sri Lanka during his previous visit ,New Zealand foreign minister has expressed his country's willingness to  expedite these plans and promised  that new Zealand Prime Minister  john key will sign a MOU with Sri Lankan Government in this regard when he comes to Sri Lanka this November to attend the Commonwealth heads of government meeting scheduled to be held  in Colombo.

 The importance of promoting liquid milk production in the country became limelight after some imported milk powders mainly  from New Zealand have found contaminated with Agro Chemical DCD.

United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Meats Sri Lankan President

The visiting United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Mrs.Navi Pillay has meat Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksha today(30) at temple treas ,Colombo and discussed on various issues including implementation on recommendations of lessons learnt commission,religious issues and matters related to war crimes sources said

During this meeting Mrs.Pillay has said that she was very pleased on appointing a commission per the recommendations of lessons and  learn t commission to look in to war crime disappearances.also she urged that there have been good corporation between her office and the Sri Lankan Government in facilitating her visit and she has received good briefings at all her meetings.

Sri Lanka Customs Seized The Largest Ever Drug Stock Seized In South Asian Region

Sri Lanka Customs has today(30) seized a large stock of heroin from orugodawatta area weighing over 100 kilo grammes and arrested four  persons including a Pakistani and local importer  who were involved in transporting this stock to Sri Lanka .the seized stock of heroin reported  as the largest ever drug stock seized in  sri lanka as well as from entire South Asian region .it is suspected that this drug stock had been  brought down from Pakistan customs sources said.

The largest stock of drugs which has earlier seized in the region was a drugs stock weighing 30  kilo grammes and it worth around Rs.1000 million according to reports.

The stock of heroin seized today was found packed inside a 40 foot container  and the content described as grease sources added.
