Sri Lankan Defense Ministry today announced that the Roads will not be closed for the VIP'S with the effect from today except for President Mahinda Rajapaksha.Roads were closed in Colombo and other parts in the Country when the VIP'S are traveling since nearly two decades due to Terrorist threats prevailed in the Country.Pedestrians faced severe hardships due to these Road Blocks.
This is the first time that Government has decided to remove the Road Blocks since the Armed Forces defeated the LTTE in last May.

UNP And Joint Opposition Is To Back General Fonseka As Common Presidential Candidate
Confirming the rumors of forwarding Retired Chief of Defense Staff General Sarath Fonseka as the Common Candidate of the Joint Opposition for the forthcoming Presidential Elections The 12 Party Member United National Front (UNF) Leader Ranil Wickramasinha today announced that his Party the United National Party(UNP) will back General Fonseka as the Common Presidential Candidate.
Few Party leaders of the United National Front and some Parliamentarians of the Main Opposition United National Party met with General Fonseka since yesterday in Colombo to discuss the future activities.The leaders of Opposition Parties Sri Lanka Muslim Congress(SLMC),and National Democratic Front(NDF) are among the Party leaders who met General Fonseka.
Meanwhile the leader of the Peoples Wing of Sri Lanka Freedom Party(SLFP) MP Mangala Samaraweera said that his Party too back General Fonseka as the Common Presidential Candidate.Although General Fonseka is due to contest as the Common Candidate for the Presidency he is expected to contest under the banner of a Small Party of the Opposition Alliance and Political Experts says that The "Lalith Front" may be the choice.However the Party Leaders of the Alliance are now discussing with the Tamil United Liberation Front(TULF) Leader V.Ananda Sangaree to taking their Party Symbol the 'Rising Sun" as the New Political Symbol for General Fonseka.

JVP Also Announce General Fonseka As Their Presidential Candidate
The leftist Janata Wimukthi Peramuna(People's Liberation Front) today said that they are invited the Retired Chief Of Defense Staff General Sarath Fonseka to be their Common Candidate for the forthcoming Presidential Elections.JVP MP Anura Dissanayaka said that the talks with the General Fonseka regarding this is very Successful and his party will not discuss with the Main Opposition United National Party(UNP) who along with 11 other Party member Joint Opposition Alliance decided to present General Fonseka as their Common Candidate for the forthcoming Elections.
According to the MP Anura Dissanayaka any Party can provide their support to their Common Candidate. However General Fonseka who was retired from his Chief Of Defense Staff on last Monday still not make an official announcement on whether to enter Politics.

A Special Gazette Notification to hold the Presidential Elections first Signed by the President Mahinda Rajapaksha was sent to the Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dishanayaka this Evening Government Sources said.After Receiving the Gazette Notification ,Elections Commissioner sent it to the Government Printer for Print and the Printing Process of the Notification already begun Sources further said.
After Issuing the Special Gazette Notification ,the Elections Commissioner will announce the Date Of Nominations and the Date of The Elections under the Section 31(5) of the Constitution.

President Decided To Conduct Presidential Elections First
President Mahinda Rajapaksha today informed the Cabinat Ministers that he is going to conduct a Presidential Elections first ahead of the Parliamentary Elections.He is due to announce a date after consulting the Party Leaders of his Governing Alliance The United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) this evening according to the Government Sources.
Presidential Elections Date is to be announced through an Official Gazzzete Notification in Midnight today according to the Sources.Another Source said that the Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dishanayaka will announced the Poll Date Tomorrow.
Under the present Sri Lankan Constitution the Executive President holds Six Years in Office and can Conduct a Presidential Elections after completing of Four Years in office.President Rajapaksha has already completed Four Years in Office.
