A Large Stock Of Low Quality Rice Had been Recovered

 The  Public Health Inspectors attached to Galenbindunuwewa area had taken into custody 30,000 Kilo Grammes of Rice unsuitable for human consumption which brought to distribute among low income families of the area yesterday (14).



Accordingly the Driver of the Lorry which brought the stock of rice had  been arrested and produced before the court by the officials .However later the suspected   driver had  been released on surety  bail of  ,Rs.200,000  by the court

Railway Station Masters Prepare To Launch A,Strike Today(14)

The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters Union has decided to launch a trade union action today (14) after 2 p.m  if the authorities   fail to give solutions for their demands .before that time.  

According to the Union it demands to provide solutions for their several demands including avoiding their grade among the same service category and issues related to their promotions .

 


IMF Has Approved Another Loan For Sri Lanka

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)  has approved the second phase of the 48 month extended fund facility to Sri Lanka yesterday (13) it has been announced.Accordingly under this Sri Lanka will receive a loan of US Dollars 336 million to move forward the local economy the IMF has stated.


With this loan IMF has,so far distributed around 1 billion US Dollars to Sri Lanka according to the washington based lender. 



 

Train Services Of Upcountry Railway Line Disrupted Due,To A Derailment

The train services of the Badulla - Colombo Fort Railway line were disrupted last evening  (13) due to the derailment of  viewing deck carriage attached to Badulla -Colombo  fort bound  1000 passenger train according to the Reports .The railway track had been  damaged as a result of the   derailment itt has been reported.  


The derailment had occurred at the 118th mile post between watagoda,and Thalawakale railway stations according to the authorities .However the authorities had taken steps to remove the derailed viewing deck carriage from train and running  it towards the destination it has been reported.

Postal Workers Launched A Sick note Campaign

Postal workers had launched an Island wide sick note campaign with effect from midnight yesterday(12)  according to the Joint Postal Workers Trade Union Alliance.

The Trade union action is being launched by demanding to recruit more Postal workers


to full fill the shortage of postal workers at the Department the Trade Union Alliance has announced.

Two Fishermen Disappeared After Toppling Over Of A Fishing Boat

Two Fishermen were disappeared after the Fishing Boat they were travelling in toppled over at Rumassala sea,area in Unawatuna  today (11)according to the Police.The one-day fishing trawler carrying Three fishermen had toppled over and the Third   fisherman in the board had managed to swim to the shore it has been reported.


The Navy had launched a search mission to find out the two  disappeared fishermen.
