President Of Govt.Medical Officers Forum Was Questioned By CID

 The President Of Government Medical Officers Forum Dr.Rukshan Bellana was questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for five hours yesterday (28) over his statement saying CID is protecting the masterminds behind the purchasing of substandard drugs .


Accordingly CID had questioned Dr .Bellana on his statements regarding the purchasing of Controversial Human Immunoglobulin Injection vials it has been reported.


Over 700 Measles Patients Reported During Last Seven Months

 During last seven Months over 700 Measles patients mainly children had been identified from Sri Lanka according to the Epidemiology Unit.


Accordingly since last May upto now these patients had been reported and the majority of these  patients were reported from Colombo,Gampaha and Jaffna districts the Director of the Epidemiology Unit Dr Samitha Ginige has stated.

Cake Sales Dropped By 75 Percent During This Christmas

Due to the higher prices of Cakes in the local market  ,Sales of them were dropped by 75 percent during this year's  Chirstmas according to the All Ceylon Bakery Owners Association .


Compare to the last Chriatmas the Sale of Christmas Cakes was dropped by 25 percent during this years Christmas the President of the Association N.K Jayawardane had stated.As a result of the  higher prices of Eggs in the local Market and shortage of other Cake ingredients the prices of Cakes are being skyrocketed he had stressed.

 

Fifteen Containers Containing Medicines Are Being Held In Port Over Several Issues

Fifteen Containers containing   medicines imported by the Private sector  are being held at the Colombo harbor due to several issues including problems related to the registration of the relevent Pharmaceutical Companies  according to the Health Ministry Secretary Dr.Palitha Mahipala.


As these Medicine Containers did not get the  clearence over the issues related to the Importers ,Health Ministry had appointed a Committee  comprising of officials attached to the National Medicine Regulatory Authority,State Pharmaceuticals Corporation ,Medical Supplies  Division and  the Ministry  Of Health to look on the issue DrMahipala had stated.


 

Government To Remove Ports And Airport Tax From VAT Imposed On Fuel And Gas

 Government has decided to remove the Ports and Airport tax from the 18 percent VAT (value added tax) Tax scheduled to be imposed on Fuel and Gas  with effect from 01st of January next year according to the Tax policy advisor to the Ministry of  Finance Thanuja Perera.


Accordingly 7.5 percent Ports and Airport Tax imposed on fuel  as well as the 2.5 percent Ports and Airport tax imposed on Gas will be removed from the 18 percent VAT scheduled to be imposed on these products from 01st of January.

Six Suspects Including Health Secretary Further Remanded Over Purchasing Of Substandard Immunoglobulin

 The imprisoned Six suspects including the former Secretary to the Ministry  Of Health Janaka Chandragupta had been further remanded until 10th of January by  Maligakanda Magistrate Court last Wednesday (27) over the controversial purchasing of  Substandard Human Immunoglobulin Injection vials for Government Hospitals. 


Out of these suspects the Former Health Secretary was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)  on 18th of December after arriving at CID headquarters to  give a statement .
