Former MP Nishantha Muthuhettigama Was Remanded

 Former Galle district MP and Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama had been arrested and remanded until 21st of September over keeping a assembled  Vehilcle with fake Number plates in posession . 


Galle Chief Magistrate  Isuru Neththikumara had ordered to remand the former MP until 21st of September .The Magistrate has also ordered to issue notices for the director of Anti Corruption Unit of walana who was conducted an inquiry on the charges levelled against  former MP Muthuhettigama.

Railway Strike Was Called Off

 The Strike launched by the 84 members of the Locomotive Operating Engineers Union had been called off last night (13) following the discussons held between the strikers and the Government officials.

The two day old strike


called off due to receiving solutions for the demands of  the strikers the Locomotive Operating Engineers Union had stated .Many scheduled train journeys were cancelled during the last two days,as a result of the strike.

Meanwhile Government had yesterday  issued a Gazette notification declaring the Railway service as an essential service and announced if the strikers are not  returning  to work they will be served with letters of  vacation of their posts .

A 20 Year Old University Student Died Due To A Train Accident

 A 20 year old person had died due to the fatal injuries sustained to his head after colliding with the roof of a Horape Railways station yesterday (12)  whilst travelling on the roof of the train as a result of the ongoing engine drivers strike .

The deceased who


travelling on the roof of the Train plying from Kandy to Colombo succumbed to his injuries at the railways station it has been reported.

The deceased was a resident of Moragoda area in Gampaha and  student of Moratuwa University according to the reports.


Commuters Faced Enormous Difficulties Due To The Engine Drivers Strike

 Commuters including the  office workers and students had faced enormous difficulties for the second  consecutive day today (13)as a result of the strike launched by the engine drivers according to the Sri Lanka Railways Department .


Around 13 scheduled train journeys had been cancelled this morning  (13) and 119 short distance trains yesterday (12)due to the Railway Engineers Strike it has been reported.However  40 additional train journeys will be operated today  for the benefit of commuters the Railway authorities had stated .

Airport Customs Recovered A Consignment Of 2.5 Kg Of Cocaine

 Sri Lanka Customs  officers have recovered a consignment of 2.5 Kilo grammes of Cocaine believes to be worth Rs.190 Million that had been air freighted from Brazil ,at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (12).


The stock of Cocaine was hidden inside the piped hem on a side of a Volleyball net the Customs officers had revealed.Authorities had arrested the  individual residing in Colombo who was identified as  the receiver of the parcel .The suspect along with the seized parcel were handed over to the Police narcotic bureau for further investigations it has been reported.
