Central Bank Ordered Commercial Banks To Reduce Interest Rates On Lending Products

 The Central Bank of Sri Lanka ordered the all licensed  Commercial Banks and all the licensed specialized banks to reduce the Interest rates on lending products with effect from 25 th of August.


Accordingly the interest rates on pawning facilities ,pre arranged temporary overdrafts ,Credit card advances an new and existing Lankan rupees denominated lending products are also reduced adequately .


Railway Electrical Technicians Called Off The Strike

 The Islandwide strike action launched by the Railway Electrical Technicians had been called off yesterday (25)  after the discussions  held between the Railway Electrical Technicians and the Railway authorities .


The strike of the Railway Electrical Technicians had  caused train delays  both last wednesday(23) and Thursday(24) and the passangers  had faced enormous difficulties as a result.The strike had been launched due to the arrest  and remand of a Railway Electrical Technician who was involved in a brawl with the deputy railways manager at Maligawatte railway yard.

A Sudden Power Failure Occurred In Southern Province

 Due to sudden power failure occurred in Matara,Hambanthota ,Embilipitiya and Beliatta areas in Southern Province since this evening (23)many houses in those areas are without power for hours according to the Ceylon Electricity Board.


This power failure had occurred as a resukt of the breaking down of one of the power grids of tbe Electricity  Board it has been revealed .Restoring power in those areas are currently underway the authorities had stated.


Nine Varities Of Plastic Items To Be Banned In Sri Lanka

 The Central Enviornment Authority had decided to ban the Production ,sale and use of 09 varities of Plastic items in Sri Lanka with effect from 01st of October this year.

Accordingly the production ,sale,use


exhibiting 09 varities of disposable plastic items includin plastic plates,cups,knives and spoons have been banned.Anyone violating this ban will be punished under the National Enviornmental act the Central Enviornmental Authority had announced .
