Three Of A Same House Died Due To A Fire

 A Mother and her two children had died due to a sudden fire occurred at a house in Elayapattiwa ,Mankadawala(North Central Province) last night(26).Man, 68, dies in late-night fire in Madison County - syracuse.com

Accordingly the Mother and her son and daughter aged 05 and 10 years had died due to the fire and the father of the children had been injured whilst attempting to save them it has been reported.

Public Utilities Commission To Refrain From Approving Power Cuts Until 17th of February

 The Public Utilities Commission has decided not to approve requests made by Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) to implement Power cuts until 17th of February citing to safeguard the human rights of the students sitting for the G.C.E Advanced level  examination according to the chairman of the Commisson  Janaka Ratnayake PUCSL (@pucslofficial) / Twitter

The Chairman had informed the General Manager of the Electricity  Board on this after the General Manager had requested an approval to implement the daily  power cut today (27).

Although the Commission had informed the Ceylon Electeicity Board to refrain from implementing power cuts during the ongoing  Advanced level Examinaton ,Power cuts had been implemented since  the start of the  examination  last  Tuesday.

Two Trade Unionists Arrested And Remanded Over Threatening Public Utilities Commisson Members

 The Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Ganage had remanded the Spokesperson of United Trade Union Alliance Ananda Palitha and the convener of Electriciry Consumers Association Dhammika Sanjeewa who were arrested over protesting against members of Of Public Utilities Commission in Colombo  ,until 26 th of January over the charges of Criminal Influence .


Both trade unionists were arrested by the police on last Momday after they had threatened public utilities commission members over Electricity tariff hike .

Several Organizations Filed A Writ Application Against Electricity Tarrif Hike

 Several Organizations had filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal seeking an order to invalidate the Cabinet Decision on Electricity tarrif  hike with effect from 01st of January 2023.


The Petitioners had named several including the Minister Of Power anf Energy ,The Ceylon  Electricity Board and Cabinet of Ministers as respondents of the case .Several organizations including Electricity Consumers Association and Center for Enviornmental Justice haf filed this writ application before court.

Electricity Board To Reduce Daily Power cut Hours

 The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has decided to reduce the two hours and twenty minutes long daily power cut to two hours due to the ongoing  GCE A/Level examination 


The Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardane has stated today (24) that the two hour long proposed power cut will be implemented after 4 p.m from today(24)
