A Naval Rate In Mannar Killed By Wild Elephant Attack

 A Naval rate attached to the Mullikulam Naval Base at Seelawathura ,Mannar(Northern Province) was killed yesterday (03)due to a Wild Elephant attack.


The deceased had been identified as a 41 year old  resident in Polpithigama area in Maeliya(North western province).

Government Increased The Taxes Imposed On Liquor

 Government had increased the Taxes imposed on Local liquor (Arrack)and Beer with effect from midnight last night(03).


Accordingly the tax imposed on Local Arrack had been increased by 20 percent .

Prices Of Auto Diesel And Kerosene Oil Reduced

 Price Of Auto Diesel and Kerosene oil had been reduced by Rs.15 and Rs.10 per a Liter with effect from midnight today (02) according to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO).

Accordingly the new price of a liter of Auto


Diesel will be Rs.405 and a Liter of Kerosene Oil is Rs.355 .Prices of Other types of Petrol and Diesel will remain unchanged the CEYPETCO has announced.

Meanwhile Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC) too had  reduced the prices of Auto Diesel and Kerosene Oil by Rs.15 and Rs.10 resepectively

Two Teanagers Were Drowned In Matara Sea Area

 Two 17 year old students had drowned whilst bathing in Sea area of Matara district (Southern Province)according  to the Matara Police .


Accordingly four teanaged students who went to take a bath in the  sea were drowned after strong sea waves had drifted them away .However they were rescued by the residents of the area and admitted to the hospital where two of them had died on admission .

Matara Police are investigating on the incident.


Public Utilities Commission To Avoid Electriity Bil Hike

 The Public Utilities Commission will not consider any decision made by the Cabinet regarding the Electricity  bill hike according to the Chairman of Public Utilities Commission Janaka Ratnayake.


There's no neeed to increase the  Electriciy bill at this stage and the way Cabinet proposal has bern prepared to increase the electricity bill is totally against the Electricity bill Increase mechanism the Public Utilities Commission chairman  has stated .

The Commission will consider if  there's an electricity  bill hike proposal recommended by the Ceylon Electricity Board he has stated.
