The Public Utilities Commission had given approval to the Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB)to defunction one out of the three electric generators at Lakwijaya Coal Power plant in Norochchoali due to the shortage of Coal in the country .
Accordingly The generator which added nearly 270 Mega Watts of Power to the National Grid had been defunctioned since last night the Electricity Board has announced.The 270 Mega watts of Power lost to the National Grid due to the defunction of Coal power plant can be taken from Kerawalapitiya Coal power plant with the cost of Rs.228 million daily ,However it is too costly to the Board CEB has stated.
