Eighty Three Protesters Arrested During A Protest Yesterday Released On Bail

 Eighty three Protesters arrested during a protest march held in Colombo yesterday (24) were released on bail  today (25) by the Police and the  Maligakanda Magistrate Court .




Accordingly Eighty of the Poetasters w    ere released on Police bail and Three protesters including the organizer of the Protest Ranga Gunasekare who is also the National Organizer of the Socialist Youth Wing were released after been produced before the Maligakande Magistrate Court on surety bail of Rs..200,000 each .

A large group of lawyers had represented behalf of the three suspects released  on bail by the Maligakande Magistrate Court l

Police Had Used Tear Gas and Water Canons To Disperse An Anti Government Protest

Riot police have fired tear gas and water canon to disperse a massive protest march organized by the Socialist Youth wing at Deans Road in Maradana (Colombo-10) this noon (24) and arrested 84 protesters including the  chief organizer of the protest .




The Protest March had begun from Town hall ,Colombo and it was dispersed whilst on the way to Colombo Fort area it has been reported ,The March was organized against issuing an Extraordinary Gazette Notification to declare several areas in Colombo as high security zones and against the rising cots of living .

The Riot Police had arrested 84 protesters including 78 men ,04 women and 02 Buddhist monks and 07 protesters were injured and hospitalized after clashing with the Police .

Bar Association Of Sri Lanka to take legal action against president's decision

The Bar Association Of Sri Lanka (BASL) has announced that it will take legal action against the decision taken by President Ranil Wikramasinghe regarding declaring High Security Zones in Colombo District .


The Bar Association will take  appropriate legal action against the decision in view of safeguarding the fundamental rights of the General Public the Association had stressed  . 

The BASL had stated that under the cover of purported order under the section 2 of the Official Secrets Act there is a possibility to detain of persons who violate such orders ,Violating the freedom of expression ,The freedom to peaceful assembly and the freedom of movement all of which are important aspects of the right of the people to dissent in Sri Lanka.
