Police Had Used Tear Gas and Water Canons To Disperse An Anti Government Protest

Riot police have fired tear gas and water canon to disperse a massive protest march organized by the Socialist Youth wing at Deans Road in Maradana (Colombo-10) this noon (24) and arrested 84 protesters including the  chief organizer of the protest .




The Protest March had begun from Town hall ,Colombo and it was dispersed whilst on the way to Colombo Fort area it has been reported ,The March was organized against issuing an Extraordinary Gazette Notification to declare several areas in Colombo as high security zones and against the rising cots of living .

The Riot Police had arrested 84 protesters including 78 men ,04 women and 02 Buddhist monks and 07 protesters were injured and hospitalized after clashing with the Police .

Bar Association Of Sri Lanka to take legal action against president's decision

The Bar Association Of Sri Lanka (BASL) has announced that it will take legal action against the decision taken by President Ranil Wikramasinghe regarding declaring High Security Zones in Colombo District .


The Bar Association will take  appropriate legal action against the decision in view of safeguarding the fundamental rights of the General Public the Association had stressed  . 

The BASL had stated that under the cover of purported order under the section 2 of the Official Secrets Act there is a possibility to detain of persons who violate such orders ,Violating the freedom of expression ,The freedom to peaceful assembly and the freedom of movement all of which are important aspects of the right of the people to dissent in Sri Lanka.



Sri Lanka's President Declared 18 Major State Buildings As High Security Zones

President Ranil Wikramasinghe had yesterday (23) issued an extraordinary Gazette notification declaring 18 major state buildings  including the Parliamentary Complex ,Presidents house and  many strategic locations  in the Country's capital City Colombo as high security zones.




According to the Extra Ordinary Gazette notification issued by the President Wikramasinghe as the Minister of Defense the Parliament Complex and it's surrounding areas ,the Temple trees ,Prime Minister's office ,Supreme Court Complex ,High Court complex ,Magistrate Court Complex , Attorney General's Department ,Presidential Secretariat, Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters ,Police Headquarters  ,The Ministry Of Defense ,Sri Lanka Army headquarters ,Sri Lanka Airforce headquarters and official residences of the secretary to the Ministry of Defense and commandoes of tri forces have  been declared as high security zones .

This kind of Gazette notification declaring many major buildings and areas as high security zones had been issued after many years .

Public Utilities Commission Refused To Give Permission To Extend Power Cut Hours

Public Utilities Commission had refused to give a permission to the request made by Ceylon Electricity Board(CEB) to extend the daily Power cut by an additional one hour according to the Commission  .Public Utilities Commission had turned down the request made by CEB as the Board has failed to justify the request .


Ceylon Electricity Board has maintained one hour and twenty minutes long power cut in last few days and but had requested to increase the duration from another one hour to two hours and twenty minutes at a time  hydro catchment areas have received heavy showers .

Accordingly all the groups from A to W   will experience one hour and twenty minutes long daily power cuts further from 6 p.m to 10 p.m.

Navy Arrested Two Persons With A Stock Of Kerala Cannabis

 Sri Lanka Navy had arrested two persons along with more than 155 Kilo Grammes of Kerala Cannabis in their possession during a raid  carried out in Ilanthadiya area in Norochholai (North western province ) today (23) .


The suspects are of the ages  35 and 40 years resides in Ragama area .Sri Lanka Navy had  handed over the two suspects along with the stock of Kerala Canabies  were handed over to the Norochcholai Police for  a legal action .
