President's lawyers Raised Objections Against Naming Him As A Respondent Of Fundamental Rights Petitions On Easter Attacks

 A hot debate goes on among legal circles these days regarding whether to remove President Ranil Wikramasinghe's name appeared  as a respondent in the many fundamental rights petitions filed at  the Supreme Court regarding  the Easter Sunday attacks carried out in 2019 ,due to the powers vested with the executive presidency ,

The lawyers appeared at the  Supreme Court behalf of the President Ranil Wikramasinghe had made a request today (26)from the seven bench Judge panel of the Supreme Court that the Fundamental rights petition filed  by many factions cannot be  carried forward the President Wikramasinghe's name as a respondent because he was elected as the President .

Attorney at law Suren Fernando who appeared for President Wikramasinghe has raised an objection before the court today and said that as his client was elected as the executive president a case cannot be conducted against him as per the article 35 of the Sri Lanka's constitution .

However many factions had opposed this remark and the lawyers representing the former President Maithripala Sirisena who is also named as a respondent of the fundamental rights petitions filed on Easter  Sunday attacks had raised objections before the seven member judge panel .

Amidst objections, the Supreme court requested the lawyers representing behalf of the former President Maithripala Sirisena to make their submissions today .Several factions including the Sri Lanka Bar association had filed 12 fundamental rights petitions on Easter Sunday attacks at the Supreme Court  .

Colombo Fort Magistrate Court Issued Interim Order For Six Galle Face Protesters Banning Them Going Abroad

 Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage had today (25) imposed a foreign travel ban on 06 persons involved in Galle face protest including the convener of Inter University Students Federation Wasantha Mudalige and president of Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph stalin after considering a request made by Colombo Crimes Division .


Colombo Fort Magistrate had issued an interim order for the 06 persons over a  complaint made by the Colombo  Crimes Division that they had damaged the public properties whilst staging a demonstration in front of the Police headquarters .

Government To Restrict Fuel Importation In Next 12 Months

 Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekare had today (25) stated that government will restrict the importation of fuel for next 12 months due to the foreign currency problem faced by the country at present


.

The QR Code system has been introduced due to the Government's inability to meet the daily requirement of fuel  in the country. Even if there are enough stocks of fuel available  it is not practical to supply fuel to every fuel station in the country he had further said.

Colombo Magistrate Court Extended The Foreign Travel Ban Imposed On Former Central Bank Governor

 Colombo Magistrate Court had today (25) extended the foreign travel ban imposed on former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivaad Cabral who is accused as one of the officials responsible for the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka ,until 26th of October this year .


The Colombo additional Magistrate Harshana Kakunawala has extended the foreign travel ban imposed on former Central Bank governor after taken into consideration  a private complaint made against him by the former Governor of Southern Province Ranjith Keerthi Thennakoon,The private complaint filed by the former governor of Southern Province is scheduled to be taken in to consideration on 26th of October ,

Through the private complaint filed on court by the former governor of Southern province he had submitted several charges against the former Central Bank governor Cabral including his decision to pay US Dollars 6.5 million belonging to the Central Bank to an American national without the Cabinet approval between 2006 to  2015 to promote Sri Lanka's image .
