All the station masters attached to the Sri Lanka Railways Department had commenced a 48 hour token strike from 6 p.m this evening (23) over the new Train ticket fare revision .
As the increased Prices of Train tickets are high Station Masters are demanding a fair revision of Train ticket fares .Sri Lanka Railways Department had announced that the Train ticket fares will be increased with effect from this evening ,However Station Masters had said they will be selling the Trian tickets at the old price .
President Ranil Wikramsinghe had today (23) instructed the relevant authorities to issue fuel to Vans and Buses transporting School Children from this evening through the Ceylon Transport Board (CTB) Depots.
As Schools are scheduled to be re opened from Monday (25 ) President directed officials to expedite the issuance of fuel for School vans/Buses and Public transport system .
All government and private schools which had been closed down on last week of June as a result of the paralyzing of the Public transport system are scheduled to be re opened this Monday and from next week School children are being asked to come to school only three days per week until further notice due to the current fuel crisis.
Accordingly Schools will be opened only on Mondays ,Tuesdays and Thursdays until further notice and on Wednesdays and Fridays school children need to be studied through online the Ministry of Education had stated ,
The main opposition Samagi jana Balawegaya(SJB) Party had today (22) handed over a letter to the United Nations office in Colombo opposing the attack on peaceful protesters by the military ,
Members of the SJB Party MP's Nalin Bandara ,Mujibur Rahaman and Harshana Rajakasruna had handed over the letter to the UN officials .SJB had requested the UN officials to pay the attention on the attack carried out against the peaceful protesters in Galle face early this morning and do the needful against it ,
Nine persons arrested during the raid carried out by Police and Army at the Galle face protest site early this morning ,Had been released on bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court later this evening (22).
A Lawyer was also there among those bailed out by the court . .Police and Army had arrested nine persons at the Protest site over the charges of being members of an illegal gathering in front of the President's office .
Nearly 1000 Army and Police personnel had stormed into the Protesters who remained in front of the Presidential Secretariat at Galle face area in Colombo around 1.30 a.m this morning and attacked and chased out the protesters from the area .This incident occurred at a time protesters had promised the authorities that they will withdraw from the Presidential secretariat by this evening as a temporary measure..
Due to this unexpected attack occurred in Galle face protest site t ,14 protesters were injured and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital .,The Police and Army personal entered the protest site this morning and removed the protesters and captured the Presidential secretariat hours before the swearing in ceremony of 18 Cabinet Ministers and new Prime Minister before the newly elected President Ranil Wikramasinghe .Military had also removed the temporary huts erected at the protest site by protesters ,
Lawyers and Human rights activists had condemned this attack on Protesters and members of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission had recorded statements from the protesters this evening regarding the attack .Meanwhile after the attack protesters are now being gathered near the Bandaranayake Statue in Galle face area. ..
