Several Areas Had Faced Power Cuts Due To The Stoppage Of Generating Electricity In Kelanithissa Power Plant

Power cuts had been experienced in many parts of the Island since this evening (19) due to the complete  stoppage of generating electricity in Kealnithissa Power plant as a result of the fuel shortage . 


Accordingly power cuts ranging one hour to one and half hours had been imposed in many parts of the country under two phases according to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). The power cuts had been imposed in many areas between  6 p.m to 7.45 p.m and 7.45 p.m to 9.30 p.m the Board has stated .

The kelanithissa power plant generates 300 megawatt of power to the national power grid .

Many power plants belonging to the Ceylon Electricity Board had faced a shortage of diesel  to generate power it has been reported .

12 Corona Deaths Had Been Reported Today (19)

Another 12 Corona deaths had been reported in the country today (19) Increasing the total number of Corona deaths that had been reported so far to 15,243 according to Director General Of Health Services (DGHS) .


Accordingly 07 females and 05 males had died due to Corona infection the DGHS Has stated .Out of the deceased 10 were over 60 years of age and 02 were belonged to 30-60 years of age it has been reported ,


829 Corona Positives Had Been Reported Today (19)

 A total of 829 Corona positives including 09 foreign arrivals had been reported in the country today (19)  increasing the total number of Corona positives reported so far to 598,536 according to Epidemiology Unit.


Acoordingly 14,656 Corona positives are being treated at Hospitals ,Quarantine Centers and under home care system the Unit has stated

Only 6311 PCR Tests and 3022 Rapid Antigen tests had been performed in the country yesterday (18).

LIOC Refused To Supply Diesel For Local Power Plants

 Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC) had today (18)refused to supply Diesel for the Power plants belongs to Ceylon Electricity Board due to not having extra amount of oil reserves for that purpose according to Ministry of Electricity .


Ministry had held talks with the officials of LIOC today (18)regarding supplying of diesel for Power plants to generate electricity required by the country  and during the discussion LIOC had reveled this .LIOC only have a stock of Diesel to supply their oil filling stations in the country the Company officials had informed the Ministry ,

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation had stopped supplying Diesel to Power plants last week ,However agreed to supply 1500 metric tomes of Diesel daily during last weekend ,However for today Petroleum Corporation had supplied only 900 metric tones of diesel to the Electricity Board which is not sufficient to generate power  it has  been reported .

The Electricity Board workers unions had today warned that the  supplying  of electricity to the country will stop suddenly tomorrow if the fuel crisis continues further 

Another 13 Corona Deaths Had Been Reported Today (18)

 A total of 13 Corona deaths had been reported in the country today (18) Increasing the total number of Corona deaths that had been reported so far to 15,231 according to Director General Of Health Services (DGHS).


Accordingly 08 males and 05 females had died due to Corona infection DGHS has stated .Out of the deceased 11 were over 60 years of age and 02 were belonged to 30-60 year age group it has been revealed .
