Twenty Two University Students Had Been Remanded Over Conducting a Sathyagraha Campaign

Colombo Chief Magistrate Court had
yesterday (02)remanded 22 university students attached to Inter University Students Federation  (IUSF) including the convener of IUSF Venerable Rathkarawwe Jinarathne thero until 16 th of March over involved in a Sathyagraha campaign in front of Higher Education Ministry in Ward Place colimbo by obstructiNG public and violating a court order .

The suspected students had been arrested by the police last Sunday and produced before the Chief Magistrate Court yesterday.

The students had protested since last Thursday demanding solutions to several demands including issues in Ruhunu university .

Airport Customs Officers Have Arrested A Person With US Dollar Notes

Airport Customs officers have arrested

a 56 year old local Businessman  whilst attempting to smuggle around US Dollars 33,100 illegally to Singapore at the departure lounge in Katunayake International Airport  in the wee hours of this morning  (02).


The suspect who is a resident of Weligama, Matara has hidden the stock of US Dollar notes in his luggage .

The value of the recovered US Dollar notes is more than Rs.6 million. 

Government Has Increased The Tax Imposed On Imported Fish

Government has decided to increase
the tax imposed on imported fish by Rs.125 pet a kilo gramme with immediate effect according to Ministry of Finance.

Accordingly the tax imposed on Imported fish will be increased from Rs.25 to Rs.150  per a Kilo Gramme. 

A Large Haul Of Narcotics Recovered In The Deep Sea Area

UuNarcotic Bureau officials had arrested 04 persons and  recovered 75 Kilo Grammes of Heroin and 66 Kilo Grammes of Ice whilst transporting in two  fisheries boats  at Deep sea area in Southern seas  today (02)during a joint raid carried out  by using  special boats .

The estimated value of the haul of narcotics recovered during the raid is around Rs.6000 million it HAS been revealed.

This haul of narcotics believe to be the largest ever recovered in deep seas according to sources.
