Navy Arrested 09 Persons With 818 KG Of Beedi Leaves

Sri Lanka Navy have arrested 09
persons whilst transporting 818 Kilo Grammes of Beedi Leaves in two lorries ,A cab and a Van at Kappaladi coastal area in Kalpitiya today (07).

The suspects who are of the ages 23 -63 years were arrested by the Navy during a search operation carried out in the coastal area .

Lanslide Warnings Issued To Five Districts Extended

Landslide warnings issued to five
districts have been extended further by the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) due to the heavy showers prevailing in those districts .

Accordingly Landslide  warnings had been extended in Badulla,Kandy ,Nuwara Eliya ,Ratnapura and Monaragala Districts .

Landslides ,Rock falling  and earth slips had been reported in many areas of Badulla as over 100 mili meter rain received there during last 24 hours .

269 Hectares Of Land Has Been Handed Over To Sri Lanka Under The Port City Project



Handing over of 269 Hectares (2.6 square kilo meters )of land belongs to Colombo Port City to Sri Lanka has been held this evening (07) under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakshe and Chinese officials .

Accordingly an additional 2.6 square kilo meters of land will be added to the 25,332 square kilo meter Sri Lankan land from today  .

The Colombo port city project had been inaugurated during Mahinda Rajapakshe regime in September 2014 and the government  then had permanently given 20 hectares of land to china ,However the good governance government came to power in 2015  had rerversed the ownership of the given land after feasible  studies and given 112 hectares of land to china for the port city project on basis of lease  for a  99 year period .

Adter handing over the new land area sri lankan government now can sell the properties of the land on rental basis for business purposes  .

Meanwhile the second phase of Port City project will begin tomorrow (08)and under this phase electricity ,Road facilities and sewege facities will be developed .

China Harbour Engineering Company had invested US Dollars 1.05 million at the begining of the project.
