Imprisoned Hambanthota Mayor Had Been Released On Bail

Chamara Tennakoon has today (23)granted bail to Hambanthota Mayor Eraj Raveendra Fernando who had been sentenced to six year imprisonment over threatening a group of parliamentariens arrived in Hambanthota to inspect the harbour there in 2014 showing a pistol.
The Mayor and another person had been sentenced six year rigorous imprisonment by the Hambanthota Provincial High court on 02 nd of August .
However the two suspects had been granted bail after considering their bail application .

A Private Company Filed A Petition In Supreme Court Seeking A Court Order To Ban Election Publicity Work In Cinema Halls /Popular Places
A private committee has today (23)filed
a petition at Supreme Court requesting to issue an interim order banning Presidential Election publicity work in Cinema halls and in front of popular places showing Digital placards .
Chairman of National Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya and three other members of the Commission were named as respondents of this case by the petition.
The petitioner had argued in the petition that Presidential candidates have violated the guidelines issued by Election Commission to the media on.12th of September over how to carry out publicity campaign of the presidential Election .Some candidates are being carried out publicity work in Cinama halls and public places violating the guidelines the petitioner has stressed .
