Another Army Intelligence Officer Arrested Over Keith Nohyar Abduction Incident

Criminal Investigations Department 

(CID)had yesterday (22)arrested a Sargent Major attached to the  Army Intelligence Unit Chamaka Sumith Kumara over abducting and assaulting of former Deputy Editor of the "Nation "Newspaper Keith Nohyar at CID Headquarters in Colombo.

The suspected Army official was arrested upon his arrival at  the CID Headquarters to give a statement regarding the abduction and assault of Deputy Editor .He was also responsible for assaulting Provincial Journalist Namal Kumara at kirulapona  on 03rd of June 2008 it has been revealed.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before an identification parade regarding the assaulting of Provincial Journalist.

He was later ordered to Remand until 27 th of August by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate after being produced before him this noon.

Altogether 09 suspects had been arrested and remanded over the Keith Nohyar incident and the Mount Lavinia Magistrate had today released the 09 th suspect remanded over the incident Army Intelligence unit officer Lalith Rajapaksha on bail today  .

President Sirisena Had Not Extended The State Of Emergancy

Government has today (23)decided not

to extend the State Of Emergancy further  After Four months since   its implementation following the Easter Sunday Bomb attacks  according to Government sources.

President Maithripala Sirisena had implemented the state of Emergancy after the Easter Sunday attacks since 22nd of April and since then it has been extended monthly until 22nd of July through an extra ordinary Gazette Notification.

However President has not signed an extra ordinary Gazette Notification this time and government printer has confirmed it acording to reports.

Due to the Easter Sunday attacks around 258 persons had been killed and many had been injured and hosputalized .

An Activist Who Had Received Arms Training With Zahran Arrested In Ampara

Ampara Police have yesterday (22)arrrested Another activist attached to  Banned extremist groups "National Thowheed Jamaath "and Jamaathe Millathe Ibrahim who had received arms training with Chief Suspectt of Easter Sunday Bomb attacks Mohommad Zahran Hashim at a training camp in  Nuwara Eliya ..

The suspect Mohommad Rafaideen Mohommad Ali who had been arrested at Ampara yesterday was given the name "Abu Ikrima" after receiving Arms training it has been revealed. He is a resident of vatadeniya in Gampola area .The suspect was arrested accordance to the information received by State Intelligence Unit of Ampara .

Criminal Investigations Unit in Ampara had arrested 16 Thowheed Jamaath suspects so far who had received Arms training  with  Zahran .

Investigations On Forner Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapalske's Local Passport Case Handed Over To CID

The investigations regarding  obtaining of a Sri Lankan passport by Former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe whilst holding US Citizenship again handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID )after the preliminary investigations conducted regarding it by Colombo Crimes Division  (CCD).

The preliminary investigations regarding the above case had been carried out by Colombo Crimes Division accordance to a complaint received by acting Inspector General Of Police  (IGP )Chandana Wikramaratna. Earlier Acting IGP Wikramaratna had handed over the invesrigations regarding the  complaint to CID and later it has been  removed from  there and handed over that to CCD .

The complaint received regarding obtaining of the local passport by former Defense Secretary says Former Defense Secretary had obtained the passport without indicating in the passport that he is a dual citizen.

CCD had already handed over a preliminary investigation report on the complaint against Forner Defense Secretary to the Acting IGP .Z

First Passenger Boat Service In Beira Lake Had Been Inaugurated This Morning (22)

The first Passenger Boat Service in Beira Lake ,Colombo to provide a solution for the heavy traffic congestion in Colombo had been inaugurated today (220 under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe .

The Boat Service will travel from Union Place -Colombo to Colombo Fort daily from 7.30 a.m to 8.30 a.m and 3.30 p.m to 5.30 p.m every 30 minutes it has been revealed  .Three Air conditioned Boats equipped with modern seats are being utilized for this transport service and passengers will be able to travel  from these boats free of charge for a month period .

Through this Boat Service passengers will be able to travel from Union Place ,Colombo to Colombo Fort by 9-10 minutes according to authorities .
