Around 07 Died And Nearly 2000 Affected Due To Heavy Showers

Around 07 persons have died and nearly 2000 persons are being affected due to the two day continuous  heavy showers  experienced by many areas in the island including Western slopes of the Central hills, SuriyaWewa and Kandy areas according to Disaster Management Center.

Many roads have submerged ,trees Falken as a result of the heavy showers, strong winds ,landslides and soil Mound collapses during last today's the Center has stated.

Nawalapitiya Town had submerged yesterday due to the heavy showers it has been revealed.

The water level of Kalu River had Overflown from Ratnapura area and as a result residents of 10 Divisional Secretariets in Ratnapura are being affected due to the situation.

Health Ministry Has Provided Facilities In Two Hospitals To Undergo Tests Regarding Illegal Sterilization

Ministry of Health has already arranged facilities at Castle
Street and De Soyza Maternity Hospitals to perform tests of Females who had complaint that they were subjected to illegal.sterilization of Dr.Mohommad Seigu Ziabdeen Safi attached to Kurunagala Teaching Hospital according to Director General of Health Services Dr.Anil Jasinghe .

Addressing a special press briefing held at the Ministry Of Health in Colombo  today (18)Dr.Jasinghe has stressed that these facilities are being arranged accordance to the order of Kurunagala Magistrate.

The number of Females scheduled to undego this test  has not  yet been revealed He has stated

Addressing the  briefing Dr.Amal Harsha De Silva attached to the Health a Ministry has stressed that a single doctor couldn't perform illegal sterilization alone during a Surgery.  .



CID Arrested The National Police Commission Secretary Over Avant-Guarde Issue

A team of Criminal Investigations
Department  (CID) officers have today (18)arrested the Secretary of the National Police Commission Saman Dissanayake over Avant -Guarde floating armoury issue whilst at the Sri JAYAWARDANAPURA Teaching Hospital.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake had yesrerday (17 )rejected a bail application filed by the National Police Commission Secretary requesting to prevent his arrest.

Due To Heavy Showers Water Levels Of Kalu And Kelani Rivers Are On The Rise



Due to the heavy showers prevailing in some areas of Ratnapura and Colombo the water levels of Kalu and Kelani rivers are nearing spill level according to Department of Irrigation .

Due to this situation people residing near the banks of these rivers imcluding Ratnapura, Ayagama ,Kiriella , are being advised to be vigilant over Possible floods  the Department has stressed.

Kalu River is nearing to spill from Ratnapura and Kelani River from Kithulgala and Kelaniya  areas it has been revealed.

Meanwhile most parts in Kandy and Ratnapura are  experiencing  continueous heavy showers assisTed  with strong winds according to sources .
Colombo is currently experiencing part time showers with strong winds  .
