Cabinet Approved A Cable Car Project In Nuwara -Eliya

Cabinet has last Tuesday (02)approved a proposal to implement Cable car project in Nuwara Eliya in view of promoting tourism industry there .

Under the project Outdoor Engineering Lanka Private Limited along with its  foreign partner company Dopalme Cable car company have decided  to build the cable car project between Nanu oya Raillway station via Single tree Mountain  top to Gregory lake with a cost of US Dollars 50 million it has been revealed.

Sri Lanka Has The Fastest Ageing Population In South Asia -UNFPA

Sri Lanka the nation recognised as  having   the fastest ageing population in South Asia ,By the year 2030 one out of five Sri Lankans  will be over 60 years according to United Nations Fund For Population Activities (UNFPA).Majority of the Sri Lanka's ageing population is females and there's a need to address unique challenges and opportunities faced by the females in future the Organization has added.

Due to the good health care services in the country Sri Lanka's life expectancy rates also goes up UNFPA has stressed .Accordingly life expectancy of a Sri Lankan female stands as 79 years and males 72 years it has been revealed.


Cabinet Agreed To Re Impose The Sugar Tax On Soft Drinks Which Was Removed During Illegal Regime

Cabinet has decided to re-impose the
sugar tax on Soft drinks which has been lifted during 52 day old political comflict last year ,except the fruit juices containing  6 Grammes of Sugar according to Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne .

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera had accepted the need to re-imposing the sugar tax on Soft drinks during the Cabinet meeting held yesterday  (02)Minister has stressed .

A final decision regarding implementing Sugar tax on Soft drinks due to be taken during the talks scheduled to be held on Friday (05)morning it has been revealed.

During yesterday's Cabinet meeting Health Minister has briefed that the sugar tax was imposed by the Health Ministry on Soft drinks in.view of controlling the spreading of non communicable diseases. However the illegally elected Premier of the 52 day old government last year Mahinda Rajapakshe had removed the sugar tax imposed on Soft drinks due to lack of knowledge on the subject he has revealed.
