Sri Lanka Has The Fastest Ageing Population In South Asia -UNFPA

Sri Lanka the nation recognised as  having   the fastest ageing population in South Asia ,By the year 2030 one out of five Sri Lankans  will be over 60 years according to United Nations Fund For Population Activities (UNFPA).Majority of the Sri Lanka's ageing population is females and there's a need to address unique challenges and opportunities faced by the females in future the Organization has added.

Due to the good health care services in the country Sri Lanka's life expectancy rates also goes up UNFPA has stressed .Accordingly life expectancy of a Sri Lankan female stands as 79 years and males 72 years it has been revealed.


Cabinet Agreed To Re Impose The Sugar Tax On Soft Drinks Which Was Removed During Illegal Regime

Cabinet has decided to re-impose the
sugar tax on Soft drinks which has been lifted during 52 day old political comflict last year ,except the fruit juices containing  6 Grammes of Sugar according to Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne .

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera had accepted the need to re-imposing the sugar tax on Soft drinks during the Cabinet meeting held yesterday  (02)Minister has stressed .

A final decision regarding implementing Sugar tax on Soft drinks due to be taken during the talks scheduled to be held on Friday (05)morning it has been revealed.

During yesterday's Cabinet meeting Health Minister has briefed that the sugar tax was imposed by the Health Ministry on Soft drinks in.view of controlling the spreading of non communicable diseases. However the illegally elected Premier of the 52 day old government last year Mahinda Rajapakshe had removed the sugar tax imposed on Soft drinks due to lack of knowledge on the subject he has revealed.







Former Defense Secretary And IGP Had Been Furher Remanded Until 09th

Jayaratne has  today (03)further remanded the Former Defense Secretary HemasirI Fernando and Inspector General Of Police (IGP)Pujith Jayasundara who is on  compulsory leave arrested and remanded  yesterday (02),until 09th of July .

The duo who are currently receiving treatment from Cardiology Unit of Colombo National Hospital amd Police Hospital in Narahenpita respectively will receive hospital treatment further whilst serving the  remand order under the detention of Prison Officers it has been revealed.

The Former Defense Secretary and IGP Had been arrested whilst receiving treatment from Hospitals by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)Officers last morning  (02)over neglecting their duties to prevent or minimise the damages  of Easter Sunday Attacks. 

Railway Unions To Launch An Island Wide Continuous Strike

Trade unions attached to Sri Lanka Railways Department are scheduled to be launched a continuous island wide Train Strike from midnight tonight  (03) it has been announced

The indefinite Train strike will be launched against  Transport Ministry secretary's influence on Railway Department General Manager to  re-instate a Railway employee who was suspended from work as a result of working under the influence of liquor according to Railway Trade union Alliance .

The Alliance had warned this morning that they will launch a strike tonight against Transport Ministry Secretary 's influence.
