President Released 762 Prisoners To Mark Vesak Yesterday(18) -Afterwards Met With Gnanasara Thero

The releasing of 762 Prisoners who had
been jailed over petty offences to mark Vesak   was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (18) at Prison Grounds in Welikada .

This the largest contignent of prisoners released at once in Prison history of Sri Lanka .

After the function President Sirisena had met imprisoned Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero who is the General Secretary of Bodu Bala Sena Organization at Prison Hospital in Walikada it has been reported.No further details regarding the meeting had been revealed .

Some sections of the country had demanded president to release Gnanasara Thero under Presidential pardon recent days after revealing extremist attacks targeting Vesak and Poson festivals .

One Killed And Eight Injured Due To Van -Lorry Collision

One person was killed and eight others
got Injured and hospitalized due to a Van-Lorry Collision at Krundugahahathapma entry in Southern Expressway last evening (18).

The injured has been admitted to the Elpitiya Hospital for treatment .Five persons  were travelling  in the van and four in the lorry at the time of the  incident .

The deceased and the injured had been identified as residents of Nagoda, Kalutara .The Passangers of the van  had met with the accident whilst on the way home after attending a religious programme in Vanduramba ,Galle .

The deceased was 47 year old driver of the Van it has been revealed.

Neary 500 Lanterns Made Using DharmaChakrya And The Cross In Saliyawewa Area Banned From Displaying

Nearly 500 Vesak Lanterns made by
Buddhist and Catholic youth in Saliyawewa area in Puttalam had not been displayed due to the ban imposed by Police  following an Opposition against displaying the Lanterns which showing Dharma Chakrya and the cross it has been reported .

Buddhist clergy in the area opposed the displaying Dharma Chakrya and the cross in Vesak Lanterns considering it as an unusual thing it has been revealed.

Due to the Police ban on displaying the Lanterns youth who made those burnt and destroyed some lanterns and taken home remaining Lanterns .
