Three Members Of A Same Family Have Died Due To Lightning


A male and two females have died as  lightning struck them near a Tobacco cultivation at  area in Uduwil,Jaffan (Northern Province)this noon (16).


Related imageThe incident occurred when the  three deceased had gone inside a shelter near a coconut tree in the area to protect from the heavy showers fallen at that time it has been revealed.The lightning had struck the shelter where they had entered according to reports.

The deceased had been identified as 38 ,48 and 52 year old brother and two sisters of a same family.Their bodies had been sent to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for the post mortem .

Highest Rain Fall Recorded In.Colombo Fort During Last 24 Hours

The highest mili meters of rain during last 24   hours in the island from 8.30 a.m on Yesterday (14) to 8.30 a
m today (15) has been reported from Colombo Fort area according to Meteorology Department .

Accordingly 23.5 Mili Meters of rain has been reported from Colombo Fort during last 24 hours The department has stated.

Several areas in the island have experienced showers with strong winds ,Thunder and lightning today and it will continue tomorrow (16)as well especially in Western ,Central,Sabaragamuwa,Southern and North Western Provinces the Department has stated .

Several.Areas In And Around Colombo And Kalutara Are Being Experiencing Blackouts

Several areas in and around Colombo
and Kalutara Districts are being  experiencing blackouts since this evening as a result of collapsing trees to several distribution elecyricity lines caused due to strong winds according to Ministry Of Power and Energy.

Accordingly power cuts are being experiencing in Kottawa ,,Panni pitiya,Homagama,Horana,Meepe and Awissawella areas due to the tree falls the Ministry has announced.

Authorities are in the process of restoring the power supply  back to normalcy the Ministry has stressed.

Heavy showers assisted with strong winds had occurred in many areas in.the island today .
