Seven Member Supreme Court Judge Panel Has Unanimously Decided The Presidents Gazette On Dissolving Parliament Not In Accordance To The Constitution

The seven member Judge Panel of
Supreme Court has this evening  (13)unanimously decided the Extra ordinary Gazette Notification issued by President Maithripala Sirisena on 09 th of November to dissolve Parliament was not in accordance to the Constitution therefore the Gazette is illegal .

The Judge Panel has therefore ordered to cancel the Gazette Notification 2096/70 issued regarding dissolving Parliament.

After hearing of 18 petitions filed by Political parties ,Civil organization's and activists against the President's Gazette Nitification on 04th,05th,06th and 07 of December the seven member Judge Panel has given their verdict today .

The Judge Panel has also accepted that the fundamental rights of petitioners had  been violated through the Gazette issued by President dissolving the Parliament as stated in their petitions.

The Judge Panel headed by Chief Justice Nalin Perera had delivered the much awaited verdict regarding the Gazette Notification issued by President ,This evening  .The other Judges of the Panel were Buwaneka Aluvihare, Prasanna Jayawardana, Priyantha Jayawardana ,Sisira De Abrew ,Vijith ,k.Malalgoda and Madu Fernando .

The hearing of all.petitions filed against President's Gazette Notification has been concluded at 7 p.m on 07th of December and the interim court order issued suspending the Gazette Notification has been extended till the delivery of the verdict on Gazette .

Among the Petitioners filed fundamental Rights petitions against President's Gazette Notification were Young Journalists Association and a member of Elections Commission Professor Doole.

Three Students Attached To Jaffna University Had Been Injured Due To A Brawl.

Three Students attached to the Science
Faculty of Jaffna University had been injured and admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital as a result of a brawl occurred between two groups of students of the faculty last Tuesday  (11)night.

The condition of the injured students are not serious according to Police .

The incident occurred between  second and fourth year student groups of the science faculty over the second year students not respecting the fourth year students it has been revealed .

Jaffna Police have recorded statements from the students who have involved in the brawl and conducting further investigations over the incident. 

A 46 Year Old Police Constable Had Been Remanded Over Sexually Assaulting A 13 Year Old Girl

A 46 year old Police Constable had been
arrested and remanded over forcibly sexually assaulting of  a 13 year old school girl in Wattegama in  Kandy  area.

The suspected Police Constable who had an affair with mother of the victim since  long time had forcibly taken her to a lodge in Dambulla and sexually assaulted her according to reports .

The incident has been revealed when the victimised girl had informed on it to her school teacher. Teacher had then complaint on the incident to the Child and Women's Bureau of Dambulla Police and as a result Police have arrested the suspected Police Constable after he was surrendered to the Police on 11 th of December .

The suspect is a resident of Wattegama in Kandy.

The suspected Constable  had been remanded until 24 th of December by the Dambulla Magistrate Kosala Bandara Ilsngasinghe  after being produced him before the court yesterday  (12).

Eighteen Year Old Student Cyclist Had Been Killed Due To Bicycle -Lorry Collision

An eighteen Year old student cyclist
had  been killed after the Bicycle he was riding in colliding with a Lorry at Kaduruwela area on Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa road last  morning (12).

The student who was a resident of Kaduruwela  area had faced this incident whilst on the way home from a friemds house it has been reported.

The Lorry driver had fled away from the area soon after the accident.

Kaduruwela Police are conducting an investigations to arrest the Lorry driver regarding the incident .
