Wild Life And Railways Departments To Re- Mark The Elephant Crossings

Wild Life Department and the Railways Department have jointly launched a programme on re marking the Elephant crossings across Railway tracks in the Island to prevent Wild Elephants from colliding with Trains in future it has been reported.

A Team comprising of  officials attached to Wild Life Department and Railways Department is due to begin re marking Elephant crossings from tonight it has been revealed.

Three Youth Who Had Been Arrested And Remanded Over Taking Half Naked Photographs At Pidurangala And Published In FB Have Been Strictly Advised And Released

Dambulla Magistrate Court has today
(10)strictly warned and released the three youth who had been remanded over posing and taking half naked photographs of two of them at historical Pidurangala rock in Sigiriya and published them in Facebook .

The Dambulla Magistrate has ordered to release the three youth including a school boy after they have accepted their wrong behaviour at the court  .

The School boy among the three arrested was strictly warned and released and other two youth have been ordered to pay Rs.1500 each as a fine .

A court case was filed against the three youth over the incident under the Archeology act and as the three had accepted their wrong behaviour and apologized, the case against them too had been closed it has been announced.

Petrol And Diesel Prices To Be Increased From Midnight Tonight (10)

Government has decided to increase
the Petrol and Diesel prices with effect from midnight tonight (10)as per the newly introduced fuel price formula as result of  the fuel price Hike in World Market and depreciation of Sri Lankan Rupee against the US Dollar .

Accordingly the Price of a Liter of Octane -92 Petrol will be increased by Rs.6 from Rs.149 ,Price of a Liter of Octane -95 Petrol will be increased by Rs.8  from Rs.161 and Super Diesel price will be increased by Rs.8 from Rs.133 .

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera however has said that he too not understand the fuel price formula introduced by his own  Ministry.


Another Act Of Sin By Train Drivers -A Wild Elephant Had Been Killed After Colliding With A Train At Welikanda

A Wild Elephant around fifteen years old had been  killed after colliding with a Batticaloa-Colombo Fort bound Intercity Train last night (09)at monaratenna area in Welikanda,Polonnaruwa according to sources.

The Elephant had fallen in to a nearby paddy field with critical injuries after colliding with the Intercity Train at an Elephant crossing it has been reported.

Train Drivers again acted blindly by not restricting the speed of the Train near an Elephant Crossing sources said.

Veterinary Medical Officers attached to the Veterinary Unit of Girithale Wild Life office have treated the critically injured Elephant after taking out from the paddy field since last night but unfortunately the Wild Elephant had released his last breath to the air this evening (10).

The Elephant has died due to the heavy internal bleeding according to reports.

The veterinary Medical. Officers attached to Girithale Wild Life Office are due to conduct the post mortem of the deceased Elephant .
