A Couple Was Arrested With 266 Illegal Cigarette Cartons In Possession

Airport Customs officers have arrested
a  couple who had arrived at Katunayake Airport From Kuwait via Dubai ,While attempting to smuggle 266 Cigarette Cartons containing 53,200 Foreign Manufactured Cigarette sticks illegally to the country this morning (04) at Katunayake, Bandaranaike International Airport.

The Couple including 45 year old husband and 40 year old wife are involved in Business at Kalmunai area and have hidden the Cigarette Cartons inside their luggage it has been revealed.

The estimated value of the stock of Cigarette sticks taken into custody in possession of the couple is around Rs.2.66 million. 

Three Persons Arrested With A Haul Of Kerala Cannabis

Officers attached to Poisonous Drugs
unit in Vavuniya District have arrested three youth while transporting 7.9 Kilo Grammes of Kerala Cannabis by a Van at Omanthai area this morning (04).

The suspects who are residents of KinniYa and KilinochchI areas have been arrested while transporting the stock of Kerala Cannabis from KilinochchI to Trincomalee by a Van according to a Police.

They are due to be produced before Vavuniya Magistrate Court

Around 150 Persons Have Been Moved To A Safe Place Due To A Landslide Threat At Haldummulla

Around 150 persons belonging to
several families at Bathgoda,  Haldummulla in Badulla District have been evacuated from their houses and moved to a safe place few hours ago  due to a Landslide threat in the area it has been reported.

The evacuated families have been moved to a school nearby as a safety measure according to authorities.

The evacuation of families had begun after rocks from the mountain at Bathgoda began to fall  following the heavy showers prevailed in the area this evening.

The area has been identified as a high risk Landslide area .

CEO Of Sri Lanka Cricket Ashley De Silva Has Given A Statement To CID On A Financial Fraud

The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the
Sri Lanka Cricket Ashley De Silva has today (04)given a statement to the Criminal Investigations Department  (CID)regarding a case on higher Officer at the financial Division of Sri Lanka Cricket attempting to deposit US Dollars 5.5 million received by the Cricket Board to his personal account in Hong Kong .

Another four officials attached to Sri Lanka Cricket accompanied the CEO to the CID.

The money was received by the Sri Lanka Cricket over selling telecasting rights to a Company for the  forthcoming Sri Lanka -England Cricket series  .

A higher official attached to Finance Division  at Sri Lanka Cricket has been suspended and  his room was sealed over the incident .
