Colombo Chief Magistrate Has Refused To Issue Court Order Against Tomorrow's Protest

Colombo Chief
Magistrate Ranga Dassanayake has today (04)rejected a request made by Cinnamon Gardens Police on issuing a court order preventing the Joint Opposition members and supporters from staying and Protesting at surrounding roads of President's official residence during "Jana Balaya"(People's power) protest march scheduled to be launched by the Joint Opposition Group tomorrow (05).

The Cinnamon Gardens Police had informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate today that the Intelligence Unit Officers had received reliable information regarding  Joint Opposition Group has planned to round up the Presidents official residence at Malalasekare Road,Colombo -07 during tomorrow's protest campaign by lighting candles  to prevent President from leaving the House.

The Police have named  11 Members and suppprters of Joint Opposition Group including MP's Namal Rajapakshe,RohIta Abeygunawardane ,Wimal Were wanchawalata  ,Vasudeva Nananayakkara and Dilum Amunugama as respondents attempting to round up Presidents House.

However The Colombo Chief Magistrate has refused to issue the requisite Court Order by stating that the Police fails to provide sufficient evidence to prove their charges against the Protesters.

If someone is planning to round up the Presidents House and protest it will be an act against state and Police should act against such move.Without preventing such situation and making false complaints cannot be accepted The Chief Magistrate has stressed.

A Sudden Fire Erupted In Bloemendhal Garbage Dump



A Sudden Fire had erupted in the Bloemendhal garbage dump at Kotahana  this evening (04).

The Fire Brigade attached to Colombo Municipal Council had deployed two fire trucks to douse the fire.

The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.

A Person Was Arrested Whilst Attempting To Smuggle Foreign Currency Notes To Singapore

Airport Customs have arrested a  25
year old Sri Lankan whilst attempting to smuggle   a stocck of foreign Currency notes worth Rs.20.8 million  to Singapore  at the Katunayake ,Bandaranaike International Airport this morning  (03).

The suspect had hidden the stock of foreign currency notes  inside of a false bottom attached to his luggage. Euros,Swiss Frank's, Danish Kroners, Qatar Riyals and Saudi Ryals are among the Foreign  Currency notes taken in to custody in possession of the suspect.

Two Persons Were Arrested With A Stock Of Foreign Made Cigarette Sticks In Possession

Criminal Investigations Department 
(CID)officers attached to Katunayake Airport have arrested two persons arrived in from Doha,Qatar this morning (03)with 263 Cigarette Cartons contains 52,600 foreign made cigarette sticks in their possession at the Katunayake Airport.

The two suspects a 40 year old male from Minuwangoda and 53 year old female from Kurunagala were arrested when they have attempted to leave the Airport after all checkings it has been revealed.

The estimated value of the Cigarette sticks taken in to custody is little more than Rs.2.6 million.

The two suspects had engaged in bringing different goods to Sri Lanka freequaintly according to reports.They are due to be produced before the Negambo Magistrate Court .
