A Proposal To The Government To Reduce The Gold Import Tax By 50 Percent
The National Gem and Jewelry Authority had proposed the government to reduce the Gold import tax by 50 percent from 15 percent to 7.5 percent in view of saving local Gold Industry according to the Authority.
As the Governmemt had increased the Gold Import tax from 4.5 percent to 15 percent recently to avoid gold Smuggling, a Gold shortage has been created in the county at present and Goldsmiths facing enormous difficulties in the industry the Authority has stated.
Due to the recent increase of the Gold Import Tax the Prices of Gold and Jewelry in the country too had been increased .
At present the Gold prices in the world market had been decreased.
Two Persons Were Critically Injured Due To A Road Accident
A Lorry Driver And his assistant have
been critically injured and hospitalized after the Lorry they were travelling in colliding with a bridge at Pudupudiyankulam area in Kangarayankulam ,Vavuniya and toppled over to a canal nearby with a part of a bridge.
The critically injured were admitted to Vavuniya General Hospital for treatment.
The Lorry which transported goods to Jaffna had toppled to the Canal as the driver had fallen a sleep while on the wheel it has been revealed.

Five Persons Involved In Printing Fake Currency Notes And Certificates Had Been Arrested

hana Police have arrested five persons involved in printing fake Currency notes,Fake local and foreign certificates, along with equipment including printing machines used to print them at a printing press in Lunawa,Moratuwa area yesterday (25).
Among the matarials and equipment taken in to custody by the Police in possession of the suspects are 31 fake Rs.5000 currency notes,08 Printers,02 Laptop Computers ,A typewriter and nearly 80 official seals used by state and private sector Institutes as well as printing papers it has been revealed.
The press was maintained by the suspects since long time and two of the suspects have been identified as drug smugglers according to Police.
They are due to be produced before the court .
