More Than One Third of Female Homicides in Sri Lanka are related to Intimate partner violence and 69% of such incidences go unreported ,a three year long study jointly conducted by United Nations Fund For Population Activities(UNFPA) and University Of Kelaniya regarding the Unnatural Deaths Of Women And Girls in Sri Lanka has revealed  , according to the Professor Anurudhdi Edirisinghe attached to the Forensic Medicine Unit in Colombo Medical Faculty .

Out of the 243 homicides reviewed in the study which covered five provinces in Sri Lanka .128 of the cases identified the perpetrator as the legal husband  Professor Edirisinghe has stressed during the launching of this Study report held at Saffron Room in BMICH ,Colombo -07 last evening(05).

"The study also reveals that only 30% of  the homicide cases had reached the High Court while the average time period for conclusion of cases is three years from the time a case is filed .In light of this the study aims to describe the problems associated with the Judicial processes and outcomes relating to unnatural female deaths .It further aims to provide policy inputs and guidelines to address problems associated with the investigation and judicial processes relating to the issue " Professor Edirisinghe has said.Professor Maithree Wikramasinghe attached to the English Department in University Of Kelaniya who is the wife of Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe had chaired the event .
