Cabinet Has Decided To Remove The Ban On White Asbestos Sheets-Blue Asbestos Sheets To Be Banned As Planned
Cabinet has decided to remove the ban due to be imposed on using of White Asbestos Sheets in Government Institutions with effect from 01st of January 2018.
However the Ban scheduled to be imposed on using of Blue Asbestos Sheets with effect from the same date, will be imposed as planned the Government has announced.
Earlier President Maithripala Sirisena had announced that the importing of raw materials to manufacture the Asbestos Sheets will be banned with effect from 01st of January 2018 and the using of Asbestos Sheets will be completely banned with effect from 2020.
However the Ban scheduled to be imposed on using of Blue Asbestos Sheets with effect from the same date, will be imposed as planned the Government has announced.

Two Persons Were Killed Due To Wild Elephant Attacks
Two persons were killed in Galgamuwa and Giriulla areas last night (19) and this morning (20) due to Wild Elephant attacks it has been reported.
Accordingly a 53 year old person resided in Ihalakonwewa area in Galgamuwa was killed by a Wild Elephant while attempting to chased away the Elephant who had arrived near his house last night it has been revealed.
In another incident a 68 year old person was killed due to a Wild Elephant attack this morning while he was on the way to Polonnaruwa Hospital at Giriulla area .

Three Sluice Gates Of The Upper Kothmale Reservoir Opened Due To Heavy Showers
Three sluice gates of Upper Kothmale Reservoir had been opened since this morning (20) due to the rising water levels of the reservoir as a result of the heavy showers prevails in Central Hill areas .
The Meteorology Department has announced that due to the North Eastern monsoon rainy season ,heavy showers with strong winds will be experienced in most parts of the Island these days.
Due to the strong winds expected in sea areas ,Both the Fisheries community and the Navy personal have been alerted to avoid going to sea these days.
