Police Had Arrested Nine "Ava" Group Members With It's Leader

Police had today(30) arrested six members of the
Jaffna underworld sword group "Ava"group including it"s leader Mohommad Ikram  while staying in a house at Biyagama area.

As per the information received from them another three "Ava" group members had arrested in Vavuniya and Paranthan areas with three sharp objects,four swords and a hand bomb in their possession.

The arrested suspects are of the ages 17-22 years.


Many Families In Landslide Risk Areas Have Been Evacuated

Many families in landslide risk areas of Meeriyabadde-Koslanda,Ella and Haputhale
areas have been evacuated from their houses and moved them  to temporary shelters today (30).

Accordingly 15 families in kolathanne  ,Gurukandura village of Ella  Divisional Secretariat and 173 families in Galanorwatte,Belwood and Govawatte estates had removed from their houses and shifted to temporary shelters  today .

Three Vehicles Got Damaged Due To A Fallen Rocks

Three vehicles had damaged due to a falling of rocks
and sand on to the Ratnapura-Badulla main road at  Haldummala,Haputhale and Beragala areas today (30).

Accordingly a Van,Three Wheeler and a Lorry were damaged due to the incident.However no one in the vehicles got injured it has been revealed.

The Rocks and sand fallen on to the road had been removed according to reports.

A Lorry Driver And His Assistant Were Critically Injured Due To A Road Accident

A Lorry driver and his assistant have been critically
injured and hospitalized after a  small lorry they were travelling  from Maskeliya to Hatton veering  off the road on Maskeliya-Hatton main road and fallen down into a 75 foot deep precipice  last evening (29).

The Lorry had faced this incident when it attempted to allow space to another Lorry and the small Lorry had slipped on the road and fallen down in to the precipice  as a result of the adverse weather according to the Police.

Seven Persons Had Died ,Five Others Missing And Two Hundred Thousand Are Being Displaced Due to Adverse Weather

Around 07 persons had died ,05 persons are missing
and 20,000 are being displaced due to the adverse weather condition including heavy showers and strong winds which affected many districts according to the Disaster Management Center.

Around 1036 displaced persons have been moved in to temporary shelters with the help of tri forces and police due to the situation .

Due to the strong winds and Heavy Showers 202 houses were completely destroyed and another 3250 houses were partially damaged the Center has stated.

Out of the 202 houses that were completely destroyed 157 houses were situated in Kalutara District it has been revealed.

Around 672 small and medium scale business establishments in Kalutara District and 04 such establishments  in Badulle-Passara area have been damaged due to the Adverse weather it has been reported.

Few Large Trees In Viharamaha Devi Park Too Had Fallen To The Ground Due To Adverse Weather

Few large  Trees in the famous Viharamaha Devi Park in Town Hall area had fallen on to the ground due to the strong winds it has been reported.

Last night a tree had fallen on to a Motor Car in Kiribathgoda by injuring two persons and incidents related to fallen trees  were reported in many parts of the island since lat evening (29).

Meanwhile the Colombo Urban Council has requested the public to inform on road obstructions occurred due to the fallen trees within Colombo Municipal Council limits to the number 0777 313247 or to the hot line 110.
