Eight Persons Including MP Namal Rajapakshe Arrested Over Obstructive Behaviour In A Protest Had Granted Bail

Hambanthota Magisteate Manjula Karunaratne has
today (16)granted bail to eight suspects including UPFA MP Namal Rajapakshe who had been arrested and remanded over an obstructive behaviour during a protest held in Hambanthota recently.

The suspects have been granted bail over various reasons including due to attend a seminar in Russia,one due to engagement and due to have a small infant etc.it has been revealed.

All the eight suspects have been produced before the Hambanthota Magistrate Court today,

MP Namal Rajapakshe and few other MP's have been arrested after they arrive  to Hambanthota Police to give a statement regarding the allegations leveled against them.

Two Persons Have Been Arrested With 800 Narcotic Tablets

Police have today(16)arrested two businessman while transporting  around 800 narcotic tablets  in Kandy today (16).

Police officers have also taken in to custody the van the suspects used to transport the narcotic tablets.

The suspects who are residents of Thalathuoya,Kandy had  sold narcotic tablets Rs.100 per a tablet it has
been revealed.

Katugasthota Police are investigating on the incident.

A Trainee Army Soldier Was Killed Due To A Wild Elephant Attack

A trainee Army soldier attached to the Special Army
base in Maduru Oya was killed due to a wild elephant attack while engaged in training at a jungle reserve in Maduru oya today (16).

The deceased had been identified as a 19 year old Army Soldier resided in Udupussallawa area according to the  police.

A Lane Of Olcot Mawatha Has Been Blocked Due To Anti SAITM Protest

One lane of the entry point of Olcott mawatha (Road)in
pettah (Colombo)has been blocked due to a protest campaign held by members of the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF),trade unionists and doctors by burning tyres and scarecrows ,demanding to abolish SAITM and release of imprisoned university student leaders near the Bo tree in Pettah this noon (16).

A heavy traffic has been reported as a result of the protest.

Student leaders Ryan jayalath ,Tampitiye Sugathanande thero and Lahiru weerasekare have been remanded over organizing anti SAITM protests by causing inconvenience to the public and protesters have demanded to relase them and abolish SAITM (Malabe ,Private Medical Collage).
