A Sudden Fire Had Erupted In A Building At Borella Yesterday

An extensive damage has done due to a sudden fire
erupted in the ground floor of a three storied Building in Seevali Road,Borella yesterday (23).

The Fire brigade had doused the fire with the assistance of Ceylon Electricity Board workers.

No one was injured due to the incident.

The cause of the fire and the value of the damage done to the property as a result of the fire have not yet been revealed.


A Prrson With A Large Stock Of Waste Tea Arrested In Mawathagama

Mawathagama Police had arrested a person while
transporting  around 5040 kilo grammes of waste tea in a Lorry in Mawathagama area.

Police have also taken into custody the Lorry and the stock of waste tea.The suspect has been identified as a resident of Nawalapitiya area.

Two Were Killed Due To A Road Accident In Narammala

Two persons ,a male and a female had been killed and
six  others including a Lorry driver got injured and hospitalized after the lorry they were travelling in veering off the road and colliding with a cut off tree in udapola junction at Narammala area in the wee hours of this morning (24).

Eight persons who were in the lorry travelling from Narammala to kahawatteala  area had admitted to the Kurunagala Teaching Hospital for treatment and two of the injured who were residents of polgahawela area had succumbed to their injuries after admission.

The accident was occurred as the driver failed to control the speed of the lorry according to the police.

An Excise Officer Had Been Arrested While Accepting A Bribe

An officer attached to the excise department office in
Aluthgama had been arrested by the Bribery Commission officials while accepting a sum of  Rs.30,000 as a bribe from a Businessman.

The suspect had been remanded until 28th of September after being produced before the Kalutara Magistrate Court.

The excise department officer had earlier taken Rs.20,000 as a bribe from a Businessman in Beruwala area for not taking any action against his Cannabies Business.The Officer has requested Rs.50,000 from the Businessman to cover up his illegal cannabis business and taken Rs.20,000 earlier and when he prepared to accept the remain amount, Bribery Commission officials had arrested him.
