Lawyers Of Impriosned Lalith Weerathunge And Anusha Palpita Filed An Appeal Against "Sil Redhi"Verdict
The lawyers of the imprisoned secretary to the former President Mahinda Rajapakshe ,Lalith Weerathunge and the former Director Of Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Anusha Palpita had yesterday(11) filed an appeal in Court of Appeal against the verdict given against their clients by the Colombo High Court over the "Sil Redhi"(White Cloths) case.
Colombo High Court had sentenced the imprisoned former officers mentioned above a three year rigorous imprisonment over distributing "Sil Redhi" among Buddhist Devotees in temples throughout the island during the last presidential elections by spending Rs.600 million belonging to Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.
There are reports that during the distribution of "Sil Redhi" among Buddhist devotees a notice by requesting to vote former President Mahinda Rajapakshe were also given to the devotees which the election monitors than described as a clear violation of election laws.
Meanwhile former President Mahinda Rajapakshe has yesterday(11) stated that he ordered to distribute Sil Redhi" among devotees after visited the imprisoned former officers attached to his administration in Welikada prison.

Elephant "Kandula"Died After Fallen Down From A Truck In Kadugannawa
An Elephant "Kandula" who was utilized for Safari's in Habarana has died yesterday(11) morning after suffering from serious injuries as a result of fallen down to the road from a truck which he was in while transporting him to Pinnawala Orphanage on last Saturday(09).
Due to an illness "Kandula" was transported to the Pinnawala orphanage by a truck from Habarana on Saturday and due to the irresponsible driving of the truck driver the truck met with an accident on the way it has been revealed.
The 58 year old elephant has died while received treatment in Illukwatte area.Kadugannawa last morning.
Meanwhile the Ministry Of Wild Life has appointed a special committee comprising with a retired supreme court judge to probe on the demise of "Kandula" it has been announced.
