Ambassador To USA Prasad Kariyawasam Appointed As The New Foreign Ministry Secretary

President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Sri
Lanka's Ambassador to USA Prasad Kariyawasam as the new Secretary to the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs yesterday (29).

The previous Foreign Ministry Secretary Asala Weerakoon has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Ministry Of Tourism Promotion.

Around 150 Houses Submerged Due To The Heavy Showers In Kandy

Due to the heavy showers prevailing in Kandy District
since this morning (29) around 150 houses in the District have been submerged and damaged as a result of overflowing  Mada Ela  it has been reported.

The submerged houses are located in many areas in Kandy including Heerassagala and William Gopallawa road .

Due to the continuous rain prevailing in Kandy and Central hill areas at present ,The Disaster Management Center has advised public living in hill areas to be vigilant on Landslides.

Agreement On Handing Over Hambanthota ,Magampura Harbour To A Chinese Company On Lease Had Been Signed

The agreement regarding handing over the
Hambanthota ,Magampura Harbour to the Chinese Company "China Merchant Ports Holding Private Company" was signed this morning (29) amidst protests of some trade unions run by opposition groups at the Ministry Of Ports and Shipping .

The agreement was signed after Cabinet approval.Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Shipping L.P.Jayampathy and Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority Parakrama Dissanayake had been signed the agreement behalf of the Government and executive vice president of the China Merchant group Dr.Hu Jianghua had signed behalf of the Chinese government.

The signed agreement is due to be submitted to the Cabinet again it has been announced.
