Ministry Of Industries To Import 55,000 Metric Tonnes Of Rice From Pakistan and Myanmar
The Ministry Of Industries And Commerce has
planned to import 55,000 metric tonnes of rice to the country from Pakistan and Myanmar with immediatte effect to prevent a possible rice shortage in the local market.
Accordingly 30,000 metric tonnes of rice will be imported from Myanmar and 25,000 metric tonnes of rice due to import from Pakistan .
As some local traders are trying to hide rice stocks to create a rice shortage in the market Ministry of Industries and Commerce has decided to import a stock of rice from Myanmar and Pakistan within next two weeks in order to prevent such a situation Minister Rishad Baduideen has stated.
Three government officials including a food technologist had visited Myanmar and Pakistan recently to inspect the stock of rice due to import Minister has stressed.

Five Persons Were Arrested Over Illegal Gem Mining In Keselgamu Oya Reserve
Bagawanthalawa police have today (16)arrested five
persons over involving in illegal gem mining at Keselgamu Oya reserve.A large number of equipment suspects have used for gem mining had also taken in to custody by the Police.
The suspects had done a heavy damage to the enviornment during gem mining by removing bamboo trees and Tea plants in Keselgamu Oya reserve according to the police.
Suspects were later released on bail and Police are due to file a legal case against the suspects in Hatton Magistrate Court.

Nine Female Sex Workers Were Arrested From Two Brothel Houses
Nine female sex workers and a male have been
arrested by a police in two brothel houses maintained in spate of Ayurveda massage ("SPA ")centers at Colombo road,Negambo during raids carried out yesterday (15).
The police officers attached to the organized crimes prevention division cartied out the raids have arrested five female sex workers and the manager of one Brothel house and four female sex workers were arrested from other Brothel House.
The arrested female sec workers are residents of panwila,Ja Ela, Boralesgamuwa, Madampe, Ragama , Negambo ,Kekirawa and Kaduwela areas.
