Norwegian Government To provide Rs.180 Million Relief Aid To Sri Lankan Flood Victims

Norwegian government has decided to grant Rs.180
million aid to Sri Lanka to provide relief to those displaced and affected due to the adverse weather.

This relief aid will be granted to provide health facilities to displaced and affected females and children as well as to provide education facilities for children it has been stated.

Eighteen Children Used For Begging Detained During Last Three Months

An eighteen children used for begging in the streets
had been taken into custody during the raids carried out in last three months according to the Police headquarters.

Eleven of the detained children are boys and seven are girls it has been stated.

Fourteen children have been handed over to their parents under a court order and four are under probation according to the sources.

Health Minister Praises The Increase Of White Sugar Tax -Consumer Affairs Authority Is In War Against Price Hikers

 Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has yesterday
(09)  praised the increasing of  Special Commodity Tax imposed on  imported white sugar and stated that the move will be helpful to control the spreading of non communicable diseases including Diabetes in the country .

However the Consumer Affairs Authority has stated that it will punish any trader who increased the price of imported white sugar.

As the White sugar considered as a certain item under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, traders should get an approval from the authority prior to increasing the prices of imported whiter sugar it has been stated.

Nine Persons Injured Due To A Cab-Three Wheeler-Motorcycle Collision

Nine persons have been injured and hospitalized after
a cab,a three wheeler and a motorcycle colliding with each other near the Somawathi Temple in Polonnaruwa last evening (09).

The injured were those travelled  in the collided cab,three wheeler and the motorcycle and five of them are children and three are females according to reports.


Asian Development Bank To Provide US Dollars Two Million For Flood And Landslide Victims

The Asian Development Bank has agreed to grant  US
dollars 2 million to Sri Lanka to provide relief for flood and landslide victims.

An agreement had been signed regarding this between the secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Media Dr.R.H.S Samarathunge and the residential representative in Sri Lanka for Asian Development Bank R.Hayashi yesterday (09).

This money will be utilized to purchase essential goods for the displaced and affected persons in flood and landslide hit areas according to local authorities.
