There's No Attempt To Register A New Tobacco Company In Sri Lanka As Stated By GMOA-Health Minister

Image result for health warnings in sri lanka cigarette packsThere's no attempt to register a new Tobacco Company in Sri Lanka and as a Government contributing  to reduce the  Cigarette Smoking in the country it will not allow to register a new Tobacco Company here the Minister of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr.Rajitha Senaratne has stated by rejecting the Government Medical Officers Association's (GMOA)statement regarding  Government is attempting to register a new Tobacco Company.

GMOA's statement is a blatant lie Minister has said by questioning where were the officials of GMOA who are spreading these lies when the previous government reduced the space allow Tobacco Companies to print health warnings related to smoking in their Cigarette Packs from 80% to 60% .

Although GMOA claims that the union itself committed to reduce Tobacco use in the Country ,the so called officials  not being able to make a comment during the previous regime regarding the space reduction for  Tobacco Companies to print health warnings Health Minister has stressed.

Annually Government only receive  Rs.100 billion as taxes from Tobacco Company but need to spend Rs.72 billion annually to treat the patients who got sick due to smoking he has revealed.

A 31 Year Old Teacher Committed Suicide By Hanged Himself

A 31 year old graduate male teacher had committed
suicide by hanged himself in his house in kurundakulama ,Mihintale area it has been reported yesterday (18).

The teacher had committed suicide due to the problems he faced in his workplace it has been revealed.

Mihintale Police are conducting an investigation on the incident.

Ministry Of Wildlife Ordered A Probe On The Killing Of A Mother Elephant In Vavuniya

Ministry of Wildlife and sustainable development has
yesterday(18)ordered a full investigation on the killing of a mother elephant  who was shot dead by a Wildlife official while attempting to attack wildlife officials and residents in kombuwaiththakulam,Omanthai in Vavuniya district(Northern Province) after taken her from a cultivation well.

The deceased Mother Elephant ,two Elephant Calves and another Elephant were fallen into a well last Monday (17)and Wildlife officials arrived at the scene rescued them with the help of the residents in the area.

However soon after rescued her ,the Mother Elephent attempted to attack a wildlife official and the residents and she was shot and killed as a result of it.

A 77 Year Old Person Was Killed After A High Speed Jerp Ran Over Him

A 77 year old person was killed sfter a high speed Jeep
ran over him on Anuradhapura-Airport main road last night (17).


The deceased had been identified as a resident of Jaya Mawatha (Road) in Anuradhapura.

The Jeep ran over the deceased after the driver unable to control the speed of the vehicle according to the Police.
