Two persons reported as killed due to a fire occurred in a fire cracker factory in Kimbulapitiya,Negambo(Cololmbo) this evening.

Ministry Of Health To Taken Over The Dr.Neville Fernando Private Hospital

Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine will be taken over the controversial  
Dr.Neville Fernando Private Hospital attached to the Private Medical Collage in Malabe(SAITM) soon as a step to solve the problems arisen due to the Hospital and the Medical Collage, the Ministry Of Higher Education and Highways has announced today(07).

According to the Ministry Of Higher Education the following steps will be taken as measures to solve the Malabe Private Medical Collage issue in addition to taken over of the Dr.Neville Fernando Hospital .

(1)The students passed out from the Private Medical Collage in Malabe will be given a further clinical training in Awissawella and Homagama Hospitals on Surgery,Obstetrics and  Gynecology  and Medical science .

(2) Passed out students will be allowed to sit for an examination jointly conducted by the Sri Lanka Medical Council and University Grants Commission 

(3) The Ministry Of Health will be gazetted the minimum standards required by medical education in Sri Lanka  recommended by the Sri Lanka Medical Council as per the approval of Attorney General.

Sri Lankan Dental Equipment Manufacturer In Jaffna Made A Dental Chalr Locally

The owner of the Tissomed Technologies in Jaffna (North) Kulendran Raja who manufactured Dental equipment  made A Dental Chair Locally  with a cost of Rs.550,000 according to the Ministry Of Health.

The newly made local Dental Chair was presented to the Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne by the manufacturer recently during a function  held in Cancer Unit in Thelippalai ,Jaffna .

After seen the locally made Dental Chair ,Minister  has instructed the Acting Director General Of Health Services Dr.Jayasundara Bandara to check   the ability of purchasing the locally made Dental Chair to local hospitals.

Tobacco Cultivated Land In Sri Lanka Reduced From 300 Hectares -Health Minsitry

After the government has taken a policy decision  to minimize the tobacco cultivated land area in Sri Lanka the 2500 hectare land area which cultivated tobacco locally had been reduced from  300 hectares to 2200 hectares according to the Ministry Of Health,Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine. 

Based on the recommendation made by the World Health Organization(WHO) to  minimize the tobacco cultivated land area through introducing alternative crops to farmers in view of minimizing the smoking, Sri Lanka too aimed to introduce alternative crops to the farmers who are growing tobacco like Soya,Bananas and Pepper the Ministry has stated.

 As per the instructions of Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne  a survey has been launched among the local farmer community to fulfill this aspect it has been revealed.  

Most of the people in North,Uva and North Central Provinces are cultivating Tobacco and it becomes their major source of income the Ministry has stated. To minimize the Tobacco cultivation in Sri Lanka the Ministries of Health and Agriculture are jointly preparing a plan at present according to the Health Minister Dr.Senaratne.

According to the latest statistics around 25,000 persons in Sri Lanka  have died annually due to Tobacco related diseases and 5 % of them  due to the passive smoking it has been revealed. 

Three Persons Died And Over 500 Hospitalized Due To A Food Poisioning

Three persons had died and Over 500 persons were

hospitalized  due to a food poisioning after consuming food during a relegious event held in Wanagamuwa area in Damana it has been reported.

Three persons have died after admission to the Amapara and Samanthurai Hospitals .

Other persons fallen sick due to food poisioning were treated in hospitals including  Ampara,Samathurai,and Akkaraipattu.

Colombo District Court Rejected A Petition Filed Against Doctors Strike

Colombo District Court has been rejected a petition

filed by a Heart Patient yesterday (06) by requesting to issue an interim order prevrnting the island wide token strike of doctors launched by the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) this morning.

However Colombo District Judge Sujeewa Nissanka had issued summons to nine oersons including the president of GMOA Dr.Anuruddha Padeniya named as the respondents  in the petition to appear before court on 04th of May to show the cause.
