A 17 year old girl had been committed suicide by

hanged herself in her house roof yesterday (03) in Kayts-Velani area ,Jaffna (North).

The cause of the suicide not yet revealed.

A Person Was Killed And A Pregnant Mother Was Injured And Hospitalized Due To A Lightning

A 34 year old person was killed and a 32 year old

pregnant mother was injured and hospitalized due to a lightning strucked in Galenbindunuwewa area last evening (03).

The injured pregnant mother had been admitted to the Galenbindunuwewa Hospital and later transferred to the Anueadhapura General Hospital for further treatment.

Wild Life Conservation Officials Have Rescued An Adult Elephant And A Baby Elephant Fallen In To A Canal In Welikanda

Officials attached to the Department of Wild Life

conservation with help of residents in Welikanda area ,had rescued an adult elephant and a baby elephant fallen in to the z-d main canal in Welikanda area after a 24 hour rescue operation launched since last night (03) .


The adult elephant and the baby elephant fallen in to the canal in welikanda,Muthuwella area last night (03)and the officials have rescued the baby elephant firstly last night and released him to the Muthuwella forest reserve it has been reported.

The rescue of the adult elephant got delayed due to one of the wild life conservation officials involved in the rescue mission bitten by a snake during the mission.

However the adult elephant had been  rescued today (04)and he was released to the welikanda forest reserve.

Police Have Used Tear Gas And Water Cannon To Disperse A University Student Protest March

Police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a large group of University Students attached to Inter University Students Federation  who staged a protest march towards Prime Minister's official Residence by demanding to close down the Private Medical Collage and against the decision taken to reduced the Bhikku Student intake to the Universities in Malabe(SAITM) at Lotus Road Junction in Galle Face this evening(04).

Police fired the tear gas and water canon after  the protesting students attempting  to blocked the road during the protest march .

Police have later closed the Galle Face road from the Lotus Road Junction.
