Heavy Traffic Reported From Maradana Due To A Protest March

Heavy traffic has been reported in the roads around Technical Junction and Maradana (Colombo) this afternoon(13) due to a protest march organized by Inter University Students Federation(IUSF)against the Malabe Private Medical Collage(SAITM).

The protest march commenced from the premises of University Of Visual  and Performance Arts in Colombo on the way to Colombo Fort it has been revealed.Police have advised the motorists to use an alternative routes due to the traffic.

Around 6% Of The Sri Lankan Population Suffering From Glaucoma

Around 6% of the  Sri Lankan population numbering 250,000 are suffering from Glaucoma according to a latest island wide survey conducted by the Health Authorities.

Glaucoma disease which cause total blindness if not identifying earlier and receiving proper treatment ,should identify earlier and treated according to the Ophthalmologist attached to the Colombo Eye Hospital Dr.Muditha Kulathunge.

Addressing a Media Seminar held this morning(13) in Health Education Bureau,Colombo on "Glaucoma Disease ",Dr.Kulathunge has stressed that persons over 40 years should go for a eye checkup to find out whether they have  Glaucoma 2-3 times per  year to avoid unnecessary blindness.

People suffering from Diabetes and those who have a family member suffering from Glaucoma should go for a Glaucoma Test as they are at high  risk of developing the disease she has stated.

Around 45 Families In Haputhale Removed From The Area Due To A Land Slide Threat

Around 45 families in Glanolewatte area in Haputhale
(upcountry) had been removed from the area last night (11) due to a land slide threat occurred as a result of the heavy showers prevailing in the area.

The removed familes are now located in a school at Haputhale-Yahalabadda area.

Due to the heavy showers prevailing  in mountainous areas in the upcountry at present, the water levels of several water falls and reservoirs  including badulu oya goes up it have risen it has been reported.
