Constitutional Council Selected Supreme Court Judge Priyasad Dep For The Chief Justice Post
The Constitutional Council has been
selected the senior Supreme Court Judge Priyasad Dep for the post of Chief Justice according to the sources.
Earlier President Maithripala Sirisena had recommended the names of Senior Supreme Court Judges Priyasad Dep and K.T Chitrasiri to the Constitutional Council as nominees for the Chief Justice post due to the retirement of Chief Justice K.Sripawan .
The Constititioal Council headed by the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya met this evening and selected judge Priyasad Dep as the 44 th Chief Justice of the country .

Twenty Four people arrested and remanded over a violent protests
held in Hambanthota district on 06th of January were released on bail by the Hambanthota magistrate court today(27).
The suspects were released on personal bails of RS.500,000 each after being produced before the Hambanthota Magistrate Court .

President Instructed Authorities To Raid Trade Stores Selling Rice Beyond Controlled Price
President Maithripala Sirisena has today (27) instructed the relevant
authorities to raid trade stores island wide selling rice above the maximum retail price fixed for three varieties of rice .
The Consumer Affairs Authority has re issued a gazette notification directing maximum retail.price for three varieties of rice.The public is advised to call 1977 to complaint on errant traders selling rice above the controlled prices.

Minister Of Prisons Has Stated Police Should Take Responsibilty For The Prison Bus Shooting Incident

d.m swaminadan has today stated that police should take responsibility for the prison bus shooting incident this morning(27) as they have refused to provide the requisite security to the prison bus by citing Police have lack of manpower to do that.
It has been revealed two unidentified groups involved in the shooting which killed seven persons in the prison bus including five underworld criminals and two prison officers
One group arrived in a Cab blocked the way of a prison bus carrying underworld criminals and another group ambushed and shot at the Prison Bus according to the sources.
Four persons including a prison officer were injured and admitted to the Nagoda Hospital in Kaluthara and one who critically injured transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.
It has been revealed that the assassin's had wore uniforms similar to the Police Uniforms.
Meanwhile the Department Of Prisons has appointed a special committee to investigate on the prison bus shooting incident.
