Fifty Two Arrrsted And Twenty Three Remanded Over Damaging Properties In Hambanthota Yesterday (07)
Police have yesterday (07)evening arrested 52 persons over the charges of damaging the public properties in Hambanthota (Southern Province) during a protest and violating court orders and 23 of them were ordered to be remanded by the Hambanthota Magistrate.
Accordingly after the suspects were produced before the Hambanthota Magistrate Court 21 out of the 23 suspects were remanded until 09 the of January and 2 were remanded until 11th of January.
Around 21 persons including 11 police officers were injured and Hospitalized. Yesterday after a tense situation occurred during the launching ceremony of China funded Industrial Zone to be built under the Hambanthota -Southern Development Project in. Mirijjawila ,Hambanthota (Southern Province).
Police are continuing the search operation to arrest those who got involved in damaging properties and violating court order during the protest at Hambanthota.
The protesters were protested against the taking over of a private land for the project which China says generating 100,000 job opportunities for Sri Lankans .

Two Females Were Killed Due To A Road Accident At Mattala Airport Road
Two females were killed and another person was injured and Hospitalized due to a road accident occurred at Pamduwagama area at Mattala Airport road(Southern Province) yesterday(06).
The accident occurred due to the Three Wheeler the deceased were travelling in skidded off the road and crashed into a nearby tree it has been reported.

A Sudden Fire Erupted In A Forest Reserve At Kotagala -Hatton Area
A sudden fire erupted in a Forest Reserve at kotagala-Hatton are(upcountry) this noon(07) spreads to around 25 acres of land so far due to the dry weather condition prevailing at present according to reports.
The fire brigade attached to the Hatton-Dikoya Urban Council along with the residents of the area are trying to douse the fire it has been reported.
Police have suspected a group of persons may have set the fire to the reserve.
