A 52 year old female was killed after colliding with a
three wheeler at Palawatte Junction on Narammala-Giriulla Road today (06).
The critically injured female who was a resident of Galgamuwa area had succumbed to her injuries after admission to Dambadeniya Hospital.

Professor Siri Hettige Has Resigned From The Chairmanship Of National Police Commission
The chairman of the National Police Commission
Professor Siri Hettige has resigned from his post today (06) due to his long term international teaching commitment.
However Professor Hettige will remain as a member of the commission.
He had been appointed as the chairman of the National Police Commission in october 2015.

All Taxes Imposed On Imported Rice To Be Abolished From Midnight Tonight
All taxes imposed on imported rice will be abolished
with effect from midnight tonight and instead of the taxes ,a special commodity levy of Rs.15 per a Kilo Gramme of Rice will be imposed on imported rice according to the Ministry Of Finance.
The Ministry has decided to abolish all taxes imposed on imported rice to offer relief to the people who are affected due to the escalating prices of rice at present as a result of the drought.
Accordingly cuatoms duty of Rs.50 ,15% VAT,7.5% port and Airport levy and 2% nation building tax per Kilo Gramme of rice will be removed and instead od these taxes a special commodity levy of Rs.15 per Kilo Gramme of imported rice will be imposed the Finance Ministry has stated.
Taxes imposed on imported rice varities including Nadu,Red Raw Rice and Samba will be reduced and taxes imposed on imported Basmathi rice will not be reduced the Ministry has stressed.
These decisions were taken by the Cabinet Sub Committee on cost of living.

A Motor Cycle Rider Was Killed And Pillion Rider Injured Due To A Motor Cycle-Van Collision
A Motor Cycle Rider was killed and a pillion rider was injured and hospitalized due to a Motor Cycle-Van collision occurred at Pallemalala area on Thissamaharama-Hambanthota road(Southern Province) today (06).
The injured was admitted to Hambanthota Hospital for treatment.The Motor Cycle collided with the Van when it turned to a sub road from the Main Road it has been revealed.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Thissamaharamaya
