Proposed Pension Scheme For Local Artists To Be Implemented With Effect From 08th Of January
The Proposed pension scheme for local Artists is due
to be implemented with effect from 08th of January 2017 to mark the second anniversary of assuming office by President Maithripala Sirisena according to the Ministry Of Social Empowerment and welfare.
Cultural Services Department has already agreed to provide a sum of Rs.4.44 million to the Social Security Fund to implement this pension scheme the Ministry has stated.
Local Artists of the age group 23-55 are eligible to join this pension scheme.The first few Artists who join the pension scheme during the opening day of scheme will be received Rs.50,000 special allowance the Social Security Board has announced.

Major General Channa Gunathilake has been
appointed as the new chief of staff of the Sri Lanka Army according to the Ministry Of Defense.
Major General Gunathilake who is currently the deputy chief of staff of the Sri Lanka Army was former commander of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.
He has received many medals during his career according to the reports.

President Sirisena To Leave For Malaysia Tomorrow (15)
President
Maithripala Sirisena is due to leave for Malaysia on a state visit tomorrow (15).
During the visit President Sirisena is due to hold bi lateral talks with Malaysian Prime Minister and King and scheduled to sign bilateral agreements on improving investment and trade opportunities.
President will also attend the 80 year anniversary celebrations of the diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and Malaysia including a cultural show and a food festival.

Cabinet has approved a proposal to implement a National Policy on Eliminating child labor from the
country which is an essential requirement for getting GSP+ facility from the European Union.
The proposal to implement a National Policy on Eliminating Child Labor from Sri Lanka was submitted to the Cabinet by the Minister Of Labor W.D.J Seneviratne .
Sri Lanka has agreed to Eliminate child labor from the country at the Global Child Labor Conference held in Hague ,Netherlands in 2010 and accordingly the Child Labor of the country has been decreased by 50% during the 2008/2009 and 2015/2016 periods it has been reported..
